Am I allowed to get a few pics of the concert? I'll be up front in the Pit in the Dallas show and it would be really cool if could, but i dont wanna have them take away my camera either (like they did at teh chemical brothers show)
I know this has been asked 100 times, but when I do a search I'm getting a SQL error..

I took a lot at the atlanta show, an old woman usher came up behind me and said no flash photography, but NOTHING STOPPED ME. |

I've seen Frank once doing an acoustic set this year, and once with the Pixies, and both times, people were taking pictures. My educated guess is that the band is fine with fans taking pictures, and it is up to the venue how serious they are in enforcing their own no-photography rules. |

When I went to see them in Winnipeg they had signs everywhere that no cameras are allowed. I snuck my massive SLR in and just didn't use a flash. No one said anything to me. My girlfriend was employed as an usher a few years ago and she said the only they they went up to people was when they were using flash.

I've found my best gig pics have been taken without a flash.
Photography wizards feel free to tear that statement apart, but it works for me. In fact the only time I did use a flash at Brixton for the Pixies is when they turned out shitty. |

I agree completely. It sucks that it sometimes is unavoidable. But at the same time if you have the skills you can pull off great work. I took these recently and was using flash for every picture. Some of them you can't even tell that a flash was used. http://broszkowski.com/photos/dresdendolls_aug12/dresdenaug1204.html
These pictures were taken without flash but I had to use 3200 speed film. http://broszkowski.com/pixies/winn.html
I would recommend reading up how to use flash properly so you pictures don't come out with everyone having white faces and washing out the stage lighting. That will help you tremendously.
Keep in mind though that at some shows no matter how much skill you have you will not be able to get away from using flash no matter what speed film you have.

Hypothetically, do you think if I were to bring my clunky SLR with me, minus a flash, and I was informed that I couldn't use it, would it be confiscated, or would an usher just kindly ask me to stop using it. The answer might be obvious, but many years of teachers unjustly taking my things have me me extra-cautious.
Turn the spit on that pig and kick the drum and let me down. Put my clarinet beneath your bed 'til I get back in town.

Like you said no one has the right to confiscate your property, least of all a rent-a-pig. Mostly they just tell you to stop but in rare cases I have heard of people getting ejected out of the venue. But those cases were only for huge name stars that really give a shit about that not an indie rock band.

Like I said I had to use 3200. That's what you get.

I tried to film a Chemical Brothers concert, they took the camcorder, I had to fight to get it back, and then they kept the tape.
I can't really say I would call them"ushers" and they for sure are not polite. More like a concert-gestapo.

another thing that makes a huge difference is the venue itself. Every venue has different rules, and there were signs that said "No Cameras". I saw ppl carrying big SLR's that were not allowed to take them in.
