I know that I am the greatest dancer, that is scientific fact, however my wife claims that I have the rhythm and grace of Elaine Benes. I do bring to her attention though that she knows shit and my shapes are renowned all over the west midlands.

Cheesypants, just watch this. You'll feel soooo much better about your sense of rhythm:

RIP Rest In Peace Jacques Derrida. rasta. ruowa. freedom from activity. a brief pause in reading. a rhythmic silence in music. |

OK, so Christmas party season is here: our works do is on Friday. Now, it'll be proper disco music, which I can't stand, but do you think I should give it a shot?

Leo Sayer. It took me a good half hour to dredge up his name from my failing memory banks.

I love dancing. I went out to this bar on Saturday for my friend Shannon's birthday. The bar itself was nice but it was filled with very questionable characters. Oh well I had fun. They were playing very shitty music so I do what everyone does in that situation. Try to bring back all the late 80's early 90's dance moves. I must say, I was the coolest broad in the bar. I mean who doesn't look cool while doing the cabbage patch, or the running man. Fuckin sweet!

I was not aware until Simon told me that there's a Prince Charming dance?!
I still say I'd pay money to see him do it. :)

The Prince Charming dance is excellent, when I was younger my friend and I would go to this pub on the canal on a friday night, around 6pm the DJ would turn up (at 6pm he was an arrogant ugly fucker) but by 10pm he was sooooo fine (beer goggles) we always left the pub at about half ten to go down to the club and every week without fail he'd play 'Prince Charming'at 10pm and every week without fail everyone in the place was on chairs on tables on their backs on the floor doing the whole prince charming thing. Excellent.

You're a waltzer at heart, Owen. I think of myself more as a 17/18 prog-style beat machine.

Well each to his own - tho yours would be more efficacious in making sure the curry soaks up the yeast excrement on a Saturday night.

A couple summers ago I was in London with my brother looking for a bass and a shop assistant held up one saying it used to belong to Your Mand And Deliver above, this was right after some incident involving Ant, a bar and a firearm. It seemed to be one of the assistant´s selling points.

Thanks for that pic Apl, brings back a lot of memories.
As for the topic in hand, well there is really no advice to give other than let go of the 'but people will be watching' feeling that you no doubt have and just move as feels natural to you. If you are having a good time then that is all that matters (as long as you don't get too physical and start hurting people around you). Rythmn is the key to good dancing, without it you won't dance in time, but who cares if you dance well? As long as you are having a good time, that really is all that matters. Now go shake your ass.
Oh and Mel, Simon is right, you did say that. It's OK though, I am used to you changing the things you say about me nowadays.
Help me! He keeps making me post!

Just dregdged up this thread while plumbing the depths of my memory. Check it out! That was almost 8 months ago!
I've changed totally in my attitudes to dancing since then as well. I've actually stopped drinking totally since then, so dutch courage is out the window, but: Red Bull is where its at. Couple of them in me, you can't stop me, for better or worse. Plus I can drive home! I still suck, as far as I know, but I no longer care. Bring it on!

This was an amusing trip down memory lane.
Simon, just dance, man. Don't worry about it. It's about letting go and having fun. Don't overthink it.
Now go on. Get down with your bad self.
Sometimes, no matter how shitty things get, you have to just do a little dance. - Frank

you dance now?? how beautiful... i think the secret of dancing is just taking a second to feel the rythm and the beat...
some crowds dance more with the rythm and some dance more with the beat... so to fit in just watch...
then the second secret is to look confident in no matter what you're doing ... and to vary it up enough so your're not doing the same thing over and over (have at least 3 moves)
oh and then make it look like what you're doing is easy and there you have it!

The best advice for dancing is this. "Let your body take control". You'll be alright if you do that. |
