Should I apply for a post-graduate medical degree?

hmmmm, sounds expensive, but I have faith in you Tre! On the other hand, that will seriously cut into your fb.net time...

I'd thought about it but pretty much thought I'd do a PhD in molecular sciences (and genetically inherited diseases) but now I'm thinking I should apply even if I change my mind. I think I'll fill in the form online tomorrow and try and enrol on the condensed gamsat training

You better spell check that application. Good luck!
So, are you talking about a PhD or is it some other kind of postgraduate work? |

bah, I've been drinking in a quiet pub all afternoon I'm surprised I can type at all right now, bloody students.
I'm doing an MSc now and thought I'd do a PhD after, but now I'm not sure at all, what I'm considering is an actual medical degree, it's called post-grad medicine because I'd be applying as a post grad, I always was interested in pathological sciences but when I did the biomolecular stuff I got very into that and I love lab work and thought research was the way forward, I don't want to work for a company, would much rather do university based work, a close friend of mine is doing a PhD in Cardiff on DNA fingerprinting techniques (she went nuts that I didn't go do one with her) and is currently waiting on confirmation on a paper she's second author on (in fucking NATURE none the less, as a post grad, bitch) and it's all very exciting, and now I'm confused. I guess if I do apply at least I have options.
I want to do both ()

So, one option is MD and the other is a PhD? Is either shorter? Does one of them offer more independence? I'm guessing in your field there is never a huge amount of independence because it so expensive and requires money from an advisor. Is that right? |

Idiot child, you don't use UCAS for postgraduate applications. Trust me on this.

firstly cheesy you're wrong
secondly, both would be funded, MD via bursary and PhD through whatever research council the uni managed to scam, The PhD in theory should only be three years and the MD four years. As for limiting I guess the PhD would be limiting because it's specific, but it'd be something I wantd to do, the MD has more scope afterwards but I think it'd be slower going to get there wth the MD..
I've got freshers flu (bloody freshers) which isn't helping my brain processes *sniff* I'm going to get a hot lemon and ponder some more

i try to look at big decisions in terms of, what would i regret more?
later on, looking back, would you regret not going more than going and finding out it wasn't for you?
aim high.. no use letting someone else do it when you can.

well I've been planning the personal statement (which is the hard bit) and I'll fill the form in online tomorrow (I'm full of freshers flu and not thinking straight so filling it in now would be daft) I'm arranging the gamsat too (I think it's december)
However, I'm applying for PhD's also, keeping the options open because both are really appealing, I'm still leaning towards PhD I think.
Oh it's too difficult! well hopefully I'll get one and not t'other and my decision will be made for me.

Not applying for science though.,I am gonna either do Music Management, or Film Broadcast Production...Both at the uni that cheesy works at. hehe.
I say go for it. if you apply you can always change you mind. If you dont apply, you will regret it.

There's no money in medicine.
Why don't you finish that novel you've been writing....
