I've taken to watching the Office again, and at the end of episode 2, they show Tim's screen saver, and it says "Garteh is a Benny". What's a Benny?

The answer may be here. It may also be rhyming slang for Benny Hill, not sure.

I watched all of Season Two over the weekend, and was really disappointed when it was over. I'm looking forward though to the Christmas special. It'll be airing on BBC America sometime either in late October or November I think.

Maybe it's simpleton? I assumed for some reason that it had something to do with being gay since Gareth is a homophobe.

Whatever the intent of the writers, I have worked with someone very similar in personality to Gareth, so I'm pretty sure it means "fuckhead".

Is it not a reference to 'Benny' from Crossroads?

benny, gosh no not a clue!

um, the only time I know benny to be used is when someone's having a row, of the shouty type that's called having a benny, but that makes no sense.

The office is very over-rated really, there's something about gervais that annoys me

I used to have a recurring nightmare about benny from crossroads (and michael knight from night rider) I hated them both, I had a leaving do many moons ago and we went to this pub called the actress and the bishop in birmingham, who's bloody running it and is behind the bar, benny from crossroads. My drunk mind couldn't cope

Gervais when he's not trying to be annoying annoys me, I'm indifferent to David Brent.

I was amused by it first time round but it's not a thing I can watch over and over again and because it's such an 'institution' nowadays it's hard to escape it, everyone loves the office

Phoenix Nights is funnier

Tre, I would think that everybody loving a good show is something to be celebrated. Over here, you say "The Office" and people insist that you must be talking about "Office Space" or plead complete ignorance.

I'd rather live in a world where the good things like FB and The Office and so on are appreciated than where people buy into whatever comes on their radio/tv wholesale.

aah no, it is good, I'd rather have a million offices than any more will and grace don't get me wrong, but as a bastion of british comedy I personally think there's better programs, I'm not overly anti office or anything

well! In my humble opinion...

Spaced, League of Gentlemen, Phoenix nights, The Day Today, Brass Eye, Black Books......

I'm sure I'm forgetting some

we as kids always referred to gays as bennys and still refer to todd from corrie as todd the benny. I also greet my mate jon "alright you benny". Dont get me started on benny fever, ah the 70's, wonderful enlightened times.

I wish I had BBC Canada. Then I cold get some of the quality programming Tre is talking about. Sadly, the best my TV has to offer seems to "Will & Grace". Although "Scrubs" is pretty darn funny....

I'm not keen on Spaced. I think the Office is God damn funny though. His stand up staff id really funny as well, i nearly wet myself when i saw Animals.

Little Britten is also really funny and so accurate. I see so many Vicky Pollards come into my office.

The day today and Brass eye are also extremely good. Chris Morris is a comedy God.

There are two Christmas specials. They definitely will make you feel warm and fuzzy and eggnog-happy.

I had an american lecturer at uni, we went to a christmas party and he made a vat of eggnog and made us drink it all (as well as the copious mulled wine knocking around) I practically had to be rolled home, aah happy days..

I hated Gervais' live show, I didn't think it was in the slightest bit funny, Peter Kay however.....
