i got SMiLE having never really heard any of the original recordings, except good vibrations of course, but being a big fan of pet sounds. after listening to it i have to hear the origianl "child is the father of man", that song is crazy and awesome. I know you got it over there haha. Anyway, pretty cool album, seems like something that will get better after dozens of listens.

why have 36 people read this thread when it's clearly addressed to Barto? Mind your own beeswax. Oh....right.

hey, I've got an original recording of child is the father of the man but be aware of the fact that the 2004 version is a bit different I believe the original version isn't more than a piano and the voices singing child, child, child is the father of the man
the lyrics 'Easy my child, etc.' are not on the original version it wasn't really a (recorded) song until the Brian Wilson Presents Smile Tour
Hope you are satisfied with this answer and I'm open to all your questions

Speaking of SMiLE, did anyone catch the Showtime special? I don't get Showtime, so I wasn't able to see it, but if anyone recorded it, I would love to get my hands on it. I've got a few Pixies DVD's I could trade and 1 Frank Black VHS.

As someone said, there is no real recording as a song of "Child is father of the man". You can hear a part of it on Beach Boys's Surf's Up 1971 (or 72).
