Snakes On A Plane Is Back!!!

Flight 121 has a new title. Can you guess what it is yet?
16 August 2005

Good news, people! Flight 121, the movie formerly known as Snakes On A Plane has changed its name to… Snakes On A Plane! YES! GET IN!

For Empire, this is particularly good news. We've been tracking this project, in which the Mob try to wipe out a key witness on a flight by unleashing 500 poisonous snakes, ever since it was first announced a couple of years ago, with Ronny Yu at the helm. For if ever a movie was destined to become a cheesy as hell, guilty pleasure, it's a movie called… Snakes On A Plane!

However, our enthusiasm began to wane a little recently when New Line, getting a case of cold feet, changed the nigh-on perfect title – a Ronseal name if ever we saw one – to the dull and drab Flight 121.

So, unbeknownst to you lot, for the past few months, we've been waging a relentless and mostly silent campaign to get the name changed back. We've lobbied our MP, we've written to Ant & Dec, we've written rude graffiti about New Line in the toilets at Empire Towers – and now the movie's star, Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that our campaign has paid off!

"We're going back. It's not Flight 121," he told Zap2it.com recently. "It's like, 'come on!' You either want to see this movie or you don't. 'Snakes on a Plane'! There's no mystery to that!'

Jackson, who plays an FBI agent who has to transfer the Mob witness in Snakes On A Plane, also went on to reveal more about the movie's plot. Like a movie called Snakes On A Plane has a plot.

"In the middle of the ocean, this crate time-releases and there's 500 poisonous snakes in there and they scatter out all over the plane," he added. "So it's us battling snakes to LA. I get to spend six and a half weeks going to set every day going 'Ah! Ah! Ow! Ow!' I don't have to go in every day and figure out the dramatic purpose of this particular scene."

Hear hear. Snakes On A Plane, which will be directed by Final Destination 2 and Cellular helmer David Ellis, will be out next year, and also stars Rachel Blanchard, Adam Behr, David Koechner (Champ Kind from Anchorman, fact fans!) and Julianna Margulies. With that plot, and that cast, and that title, we're calling it 'Best. Film. Ever.'. Well, it's certainly the best film called Snakes On A Plane ever. At least, that is until we release IRA Zombies 2: IRA Zombie Snakes On A Plane…

Sound promising. I saw some flick on TV last week about a group of people trying to escape an island filled with snakes. It was absolutely terrible. I loved it.

I really think they should have made 'Penguins In An Ice Cream Van'. They didn't even give me any feedback.

I'd buy it. Or at least rent it. Maybe if it was an Ice Cream Truck but never an Ice Cream Van...

You forgot about Kenan Thompson. He certainly adds a delightful twist to the plot. It should be called "Snakes and Kenan on a Plane". Now that sounds like a quality movie.

Captain Ahab, a (sometimes) hilariously offensive and always entertaining group from California won the contest to have a song featured in the Snakes on a Plane. The song is Snakes on the Brain!! A hip hop project that I'm involved with part-time played a show with Captain Ahab here in Kalamazoo a couple months back. Here's the link to Captain Ahab: http://www.captain-ahab.com/index.php/?p=52

In the PopMatters article, they mention how online people have been trying to come up with a name for the sequel, and the best suggestion so far is "Snakes on a Plane 2: Bears on a Train"

That might be the most genius idea ever.

Check out this thread from imdb.com:

The users at imdb are usually retarded but some of this stuff is hilarious.

"SOAP: Snakes vs. Jaws"

"SOAP 16: Snakes in Spain"

<<One scene, in which a couple smokes a joint and has an intimate encounter in the airplane bathroom, contained a mere suggestion of nudity and a hint of danger.

"Initially, the snake attacked [toward the] camera and we hear them screaming," Ellis said. "The flight attendants are just listening, going, 'Mile-high club. Those were the days.' Now we have the snake actually attacking her breast. We just went for it." >>

<<In a nod to desire for inventive attacks, he filmed a character in a bathroom primping as he prepares to pick up a woman on the flight. The character is shown urinating on a snake "and it leaps up and attacks him in the groin," Ellis said. "He's falling all over the place, holding on to this snake." >>

This is genius
