Is this a joke you think? In any case, it deserves it's own thread. Joke or not, I think this would be preferable to the new Pixies record.
"I've always wanted to have a punk-rock power trio called Schwarma. I need to get a fuzz box and make some noise."
quote: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/9257578/smoking_section?rnd=1139652218109&has-player=true In January, Frank Black wrapped up work on Fastman/Raiderman, the follow-up to 2005's amazing (and thoroughly underappreciated) Honeycomb. Black took his songs to Nashville, where studio magicians like Spooner Oldham and Steve Cropper brought them to life. Black has supplemented those recordings with sessions in L.A., featuring bassist Carol Kaye and drummer Jim Keltner. Songs such as "Dog Sleep" and "Put the Needle in My Arm" stand up to anything Black ever wrote for his Pixies, with a mellower flavor. "Now that I've cleared my plate with the Nashville sessions," says Black, "maybe we'll do a Pixies record." The band is contemplating taking its reunion tour to the former Eastern bloc this summer ("It's like Cher's never-ending Farewell Tour," he says) -- but Black has another idea up his sleeve: "I've always wanted to have a punk-rock power trio called Schwarma. I need to get a fuzz box and make some noise."

I agree. Although I do think it's a joke. Or a half-joke.

fB humour (maybe), but just a mention of a fuzz box is cause for celebration in my house, at least it's in his thoughts, joke or no joke.
today i rejoice, oh yes today, i will rejoice. Halle-feckin-fuzzbox!! |

I remember when Frank "joked" about a possible Pixies reunion.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn in three months that Frank recorded a record with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic under the name Shwarma.
Stranger things have happened.
Will I ever reach 1000?

is Shwarma what we call Shoarma and some people call Kebab?
By the way, punk rock power trio, with fuzzbox and noise? 50 Foot Wave anyone?

I prefered the ethnic lullaby joke. I recon he does that to avoid getting bored during the interviews. A clever way to get rid of all that shobiz-magazines-rumors-in/out system. |

I am already a fan.. no tunes needed.. just the thought of a fuzz box turned up to ten is enough. |

I think this news didn't get the number of enthusiastic posts it deserved. Come on! Frank and a fuzz box! Actually I've been thinking about this wondering if it should be a gtr/bass/drums or a 2 gtrs/drums band. If there's a bass player it has to be Dave. If it's another guitarist I'd say Lyle. Or Bob Mould.

I want danjersey's idea of Schwarma:
<<nick vincent on drums edf on keys fb @ center stage
schwarma>>
Except EDF would trade his keyboards for a guitar and a fuzz box.

you can put fuzz on keys, so I'm all for keyboards. It would be original, all small line up, no bass player. EDF can play bass on some synth or fender rhodes!

Schwarma Thinly Sliced Meat-Lebanese Style 2 pounds beef, lamb or chicken -- very thinly sliced Marinade: 1 cup yogurt 2 Tbls. lemon juice 4 cloves garlic -- minced 1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce 1 Tbls. vinegar 1 Tbls. onion -- finely minced 1/2 tsp. black pepper 1/2 tsp. red pepper 1/2 tsp. ground mace 1/2 tsp. salt
Combine all marinade ingredients. Add meat and marinate overnight.
Place the marinated meat in a barbeque cage and cook over hot coals for 15 minutes.
Combine tahini (sesame paste), clove of garlic, lemon juice and parsley until it is of a creamy texture. Add water if necessary.
Place the cooked meat, sliced tomatoes and onions in pita bread and pour on the tahini mixture as desired.
OK, now here's how I made them: I followed the instructions exactly until cooking time.
I used chicken (hubby doesn't like lamb), drained it from the marinade, spread the chicken out on my slotted broiler pan (so the juices could drip down). Broil about 3 minutes, stir the chicken around a bit and continue broiling until cooked through.
I did not make the tahini sauce--instead I used homemade buttermilk salad dressing.
We used to eat at this place in Dhahran called Babba Habbas, and buttermilk dressing came closest to tasting like their sauce.
NOTES : The cone of meat, marinated in yogurt and seasoning, is layers upon layers of meat (lamb, beef or chicken place on a spit and topped off with an onion and lemon. The spit is placed vertically in front of an open flame.
As the meat cooks it is turned. The shawarma chef takes his sharp knife in hand and cuts off paper thin slices of cooked meat which drop into a waiting tray below.
The cooked meat, salad and yogurt or hot sauce are placed in the pocket of pita bread or on a long toasted roll. Delicious!!!!! Preparation Time: 30 Minutes Serves: 5 Recipe Origin: Lebanon
