IMPORTANT NOTE
I've decided that Chris makes a good point, so please don't post your Soulseek username in relation to being able to download Honeycomb. You may say you have it and people may email you separately from the board, but if our official policy is to not support downloading material that is or will be commercially available, then it only makes sense that we carry that procedure out across the board.
Thanks for your understanding, Dean

If people have a problem with this being discussed maybe we should take it to the Frankblack.net SoulSeek chatroom. If you have soulseek joint the room Frankblack.net, you may have to refresh your room list to see it.

I can't get 9 of the tracks to play. Anyone else having this trouble? Tracks 9, 11-17 and 19 won't play on WMP or Roxio or Musicmatch (at least for me). |

It's just the default window media player no art available picture I'm afraid.

after the album is commercially released, any CD rip using media player will get the correct album. As it is, it's just a promo so the art is nothing. I'm going to delete the files for it.

Yes, I have it all, and there´s no picture in the album art. I almost couldn´t sleep, I had to listen carefully!

a guy on soulseek who's name rhymes with "Teppie".
He said his friend works at a record company and slipped him an advance copy.

Ah, I see. I know of whom you speak.
I get an error when I try to browse this "Teppie" character's files, though. Drat...

I've made some rather bad temporary album art:

it is the perfect antitdote to the pixies reunion - its everything that frank can't do with the pixies - its subtle, mellow, intricate and beautiful. the pixies reunion + this have made this an excellent year to be a frank fan

Can anyone please help me out with a burned copy. I will cover all costs. Normally, I don't condone such behavior, but goddamit I can't wait til next year. Though I will buy at least one new copy when it comes out. (I own a legally bought copy of every Frank and Pixie release) Please email me at: boberg23@hotmail.com
thanks thanks, bill
p.s. is the album as soulful as I'm expecting? |

Damn this shit put me to sleep. It's the first and only Frank album that after several listens, I absolutely cannot stand.
Are these songs Frank originals or covers? There is NO WAY "Dark End of the Street" is a Frank original because it is NOTHING like his style.
I know SSMVGD is a cover, what about the rest?
Anyways, yeah. I don't like this album. At all. Except SSMVGD but only because I already know it.

doesn't the fact you like SSMVGD because you know it mean that all of the others have a good chance of being as liked with more listens? i doubt you could have listened to this album as much as any of his others. |

I'm not going to download it, but what are the new songs like? Do they have a more country feel than his others or less?

They are more mellow than anything he's done before. Not as much country really, sounds kinda like a Lionel Richie song. "Dark End of the Street" does, to me, anyways. 0_o
And with all the other albums, there is always a period of introduction, and then you fall in love with it. Usually within a day I was hooked. But i'm still not feeling this one. And i've listened through at least 6 or 7 times. I like "I Burn Today" and "SSMVGD" and that's 'bout it so far.

What about Selkie Bride... easily my favourite on the disc, though it may also be a cover? In any case, I've listened to this one about fifteen times since last night.
The songs are very much straight up 60's era country.

Yeah, it is country in that way, but I meant there isn't alot of pedal steel "twang" sound like in "Goodbye Lorraine" which is the worst kind of country.
May I just say, God Bless the Pixies reunion.

Cult of Frank - I understand your position and decision, and if you want to delete any of my posts which offend, feel free. This is a tough thing for all of us who love Frank Black, because we want to support him financially, and yet, we want to hear his music without waiting indefinitely. So I for one am torn because I doubt he would approve, but at the same time, I plan on buying a copy of the recording when it becomes available. |

Re the album I love it. I heard Frank sing a few of the songs in SF in April - I've been waiting ever since to hear the recorded versions. I've listened to every song and there is not one I dont like. Maybe because I heard a few of them earlier, they seemed like old friends. They are typical great FB tunes. Very much in the SMYT vein. |

I managed to download 11 of these gems
Surprising, to say the least. But subtle and beautiful, indeed.
Reminds me of Neil Young's 'Comes A Time'.
My favorite tracks so far are 'Sad Man's Song', 'Kiss My Ring' and 'I Burn Today'. But I like them all actually.
Btw, what happened to the FB/Shemekia Copeland duet? SC was supposed to sing on 'Highway to Lowdown', but I don't hear her... |

Two things:
Cult of Frank, if there is a way to paypal Frank or whoever some money for this album, I'd be into doing that. I know it's highly unlikely but I do want Mr Black to know I'm sure a lot of us are very serious about wanting to support him.
Frog: Surprising? You think so?

i love it - i think it is the perfect example of how diverse frank is, that after rehersing with the pixies, he took some time and recorded this. that is staggering to me. my favorite so far is probably "my life is in storage" - the wordplay is just fantastic. i also love the title cut. i have to give it another 10-15 listens before i make my real favorites, and those will undoubtably change as well. i can see how some would say its "boring," but i disagree - i think it isn't as rowdy as most catholics recordings, but i think it is intricate and quite impressive. i like the b-sides too, but i feel those would almost be more suited for the catholics - a bit louder. i sequenced the album both as it is on soulseek and how "singorlaughs" posted it and i like the actual album sequencing better than the soulseek list o' songs. try it - its great w/ honeycomb as the second song.
-brian
ps. anyone notice the occcasional double tracking of FB's vocals in SSMVGD and the quiet "i've got blisters on me fingers" at the end of "Another Velvet Nightmare"

There's no way I know of to get FB some money, so if you are serious, then the best thing you can do is still just buy the album when it comes out. It might be interesting to do some sort of downloadable advance copy with this leak on the verge of getting very big, maybe still lossy (MP3 or something) so that we do see this album produced and sold. I'd much sooner have an album than a bunch of MP3s, but generally I like to have both. Might be worth looking into...
Am I the only one who really loves Selkie Bride? Kiss My Ring, My Life Is In Storage, I Burn Today are all great, but Selkie Bride stands out.
