I like this band so much, and for so many reasons.
I think that it's one of the most influential bands of the 20 last years. They have created a real new way to play rock 'n' roll like the Pixies did.
They are also unique because of their ethics (which I totally agree with) and their political bias.
I also like the fact that all the musicians of this band are composers, and bring something to elaborate their music in common, and that three members of the band sing, I really like the bands where there is several singers.

All their albums are great and intense, and my favorites are:

Red Medecine
Repeater
The Argument
13 songs
End Hits

If I had to choose a band in which I'd like to play in, I probably choose this one (or the Pixies of course).

I thought I would have heard some of their music by now since I'm a huge Minor Threat fan, but strangely enough I don't think I have. Soon hopefully.

Ian MacKaye has a few words in Fool The World-The Oral History Of A Band Called Pixies. My brother had the first EP and Margin Walker, which I absolutely loved. Their dynamic use of noise and melody reminds me of The Pixies. I saw them live a good few years ago. I never got around to listening to any of their later stuff.

(Talking about the early days) "Music was still regional then much more than it is now. You have to remember this was before there was a nation-wide music outlet, you didn't have MTV, you certainly didn't have ClearChannel, or the Internet for Christ's sake. So basically the music you heard was on your local radio station. And kids were making music in their basements around the country."

"I saw them at Coachella and it sounded good. Was was interesting to me was that, I mean they played for 50,000 people-I was really struck by the songs, and I don't listen to the radio, so it made me realise that they really crafted music that got through the filters, they wrote songs that worked. People were emotional, people were crying when they were playing and I was touched by that."

This is another one of those bands that me and my husband can agree on and listen to together. He did listen to Fugazi first though.

I've mostly listened to 13 Songs. Waiting Room is classic alright.

A friend of mine got my brother 13 songs for Christmas. I've been meaning to get it myself for a long time, it'd be nice to have the first EP and Margin Walker in one package!

i love the argument and 13 songs. and ian's fleeting appearance on nic fit with sonic youth was pretty great. a bit more minor threat-y though.

I can't remember what albums I like best. I really like Repeater the song, I think that's my favorite Fugazi song. Wait, I think it's Waiting Room... I do like a lot of their tunes. I really like all the music that I've heard of theirs and respect them for being straight edge. They actually made that cool.

I wasn't at the time but I have really come around.

It's a cool band, it was neat hearing Ian's quotes about the Pixies. It's so weird that he never heard them before.

Anyway my best concert moment pre Pixies was being at a local show for Fugazi. My friend and I were in the front row off to the right side if you were facing the stage. The crowd started crashing in and Ian was cool at first telling the crowd to back off. The would back off and then crush in more. Of course there was a pit and what not.

So Ian did the coolest thing I have ever seen at a show. He let the first row sit on the stage!! Then he started pouring bottled water over everyone. I had a huge celeberty crush on him at the time so this was like the coolest thing that could ever happen. :) So cool!!

hehe I looked up the show. It was this one 1993 MAY INDIANNAPOLIS CITY LIGHTS. I think it's the first and last time they ever went to that city. LOL.

Anyway, you do have to respect their ethics and the ethics of the Pixies. It's the let's not rip off our fans and give them a good value for the money phliosophy.

Fugazi are amazing. I hear them in so many bands today.

That reminds me, I must get a frame for the huge Fugazi poster I have.

there is a three song ep called Furniture, great stuff, you can order it at dichord's site along with (if you are a cassette fan) harder to find stuff.

this is not a fugazi posting.

yeah I need to upgrade from the tape. It's so funny but I didn't think of it but I have all their early stuff on tape. When I get some $$ I am going order the discs off the site. Looks like the songs are put together differently than the original eps. Like when the Pixies did it too, it threw me for a loop. Anyway thanks guys for this thread. What are the odds Pixies and Fugazi would play together?? I think I would freak out. A girl's gotta dream.

I haven't mentioned that before, but Ian MacKaye and his companion, Amy Farina have made an album last year under the name "The Evens". Ian plays the baritone guitar and sings and Amy plays the drums and sings too. It's quite different from Fugazi (more quiet) but the album is good. I recommend it to everyone.

You're welcome.

And I must mention too that Guy Picciotto magnificently produced the last three albums of Blonde Redhead. He also makes a monologue in French on their great song "Futurism vs. Passeism Part 2" from the album "In An Expression Of The Inexpressible". Just for that, and apart from being a member of Fugazi, this guy deserves to go to heaven (well... if there was one).

The new Evens record is fantastic. Just as good as the first. I really like their niche they've carved out for themselves. MacKaye is a role model for any musician.

I'm a little slow on the uptake as I just made the Minor Threat connection yesterday. Mike was listening to it and I said boy that sure sounds like the guy from Fugazi....hehe. Different sound there I tell ya.
