I work at Starbucks on the Ohio State University campus (go ahead, make your jokes), and I am constantly taken aback by the horrible music we are forced to play in our store; Alanis Morisette's new acoustic album, Antigone Rising, and other popular vomit.
BUT the other day we got a new CD in from HQ and it wasn't too bad. Sly and the family Stone, Janis Joplin, and THE MAN. How wierd is that? Selkie Bride, The Dark End of the Street, and Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day are all part of the new mix!!!
I just thought that Starbucks and Frank were an odd combo. But I am super pysched nonetheless.
I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten. |

That's huge exposure for Frank. Way to go!

I was in The Gap a couple weeks ago, and on their satellite radio, or whatever they were pumping through the soundsystem, BIG RED came on! This was sandwiched between Alanis Morrisette and SmashMouth! Totally bizarre. But cool nonetheless. I watched the customers for any reaction to the song...there was none. But all the same, very weird.
I was alone...in my BIG BED

Man, that is awesome! I work at Starbucks too, and I feel your pain with this music selection. Some of it is good, but the vast majority is terrible. The Ray Charles duets album is a particular thorn in my side. I was completley excited when we got a couple of the new Springsteen songs (yes, I love Springsteen). I have been on vacation for a couple weeks, but I go back to work on friday and having Frank playing at work will make my return to every day life considerably easier. I wish they had picked up Lone Child, but whatever man, Frank at work!

Mickey, which Starbucks do you work at? I dig the Boss too, man. I was kinda happy about the Sly stuff too. The worst though was definatly hearing Alanis in between each song.

That's funny, I'm sure somebody said they heard that in a shopping mall a while ago! |

Yeah, I've heard Frank Black twice now in recent days at my local watering hole. Both were TOTY songs. I freaked out each time and made all of my friends listen.
No offense, but Starbucks is Satan. Satan is Starbucks.

I worked at a golf shop for 8 years and we had a CD hooked up to our store speakers which was usually on some KSISSY FM type station so I put together a Pixies, FB, Bunnymen, and a few other CDs for the shop. My subversive way of helping our customers. I'll never forget the image of a tiny, older gentleman in his 60's or 70's slapping his thigh to "Headache". "If it Takes All Night", and "Fiddle Riddle" were pretty popular with the customers. |

I'm at store 5408 right outside of San Francisco.
and I'd much rather hear Alanis than Antigone Rising.

Maybe Frank should take a page from Alanis' book, and redo one of his old albums acoustically.
Or, better yet, maybe not.

Maybe Alanis should take her act elsewhere. And bring Antigone too.

Let's see, bamboo shoots under the finger nails or an Alanis acoustic album? I think I'd rather set myself on fire. |
