I think we did this / do this when new 2.0 albums come out, but if not hope we can do it now.
What is the best album track list you can make from the 2.0 albums alone?
I especially like to think of it that we have a time machine and we are going back to 2014 when news of the first new Pixies album in over 20 years is all over the place, and we want to blow the doors off all the skeptics with a 1.0 worthy album. What would your track list be?
I don't have an answer yet myself, though I have a few definites in mind.
Don't just randomly list the songs, put them in the order they would appear on the first Pixies album since TLM.
(Feel free to include B-sides and non-album 2.0 songs, but nothing pre-IC)
I'll hope to post my list sometime this week |

Not sure if that would work. I like a lot of songs from every album, but will they work in a single lp track list?

I would think a really strong and surprising opener would be key. Something like Bagboy or Nomatterday maybe |

What Goes Boom is one of the best Pixies openers on any album they've ever done. Truly sounds like the next album starting up after Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. |

What Goes Boom is a great opener too, that song has really grown on me
What Goes Boom Nomatterday Bagboy
That could be a great 1-2-3 punch to open the first 2.0 album
What would be next? |

I would never include Bagboy to be honest. Only if a 2-3 minute edit was available

See Bill, this is why we need you to put together your own track list ;-)
(And I hear you that Bagboy could benefit from a little nip)
I was thinking of this track list for starters
Nomatterday What Goes Boom Bagboy Cyrus Women of War Baal’s Back (which is my least favorite 2.0 song of all) Um Chagga Lagga Oyster Beds
That might have been enough of a wild tempo punch to make a different first impression a decade ago
I’m thinking of doing side A all up tempo and side B all slower numbers (so my wife and I can dance) |

i am imagining these tracks share the same production quality, the same backing vocalist, a few are trimmed down, or have faster tempos, or altered beginnings or endings to improve transitions...
if the goal is a thematically cohesive album, i would pick a different set of songs. i've gone for 15 catchy songs in the doolittle style where the emphasis is on the quality of the individual tracks.
1. Nomatterday 2. Baal's Back 3. Motoroller 4. Donna (On Graveyard Hill) 5. Hypnotised 6. Haunted House 7. Ernest Evans 8. Talent 9. Catfish Kate 10. Johnny Good Man 11. Silver Bullet 12. Chicken 13. Thunder and Lightning 14. Daniel Boone 15. Plaster of Paris

That’s a nice looking album
I never thought of having POP as an album closer |

This is what I posted to the Frank Black facebook group, but they just asked for a top 10:
What Goes Boom Magdalena The Good Works of Cyrus Caught in a Dream Mal De Mer Under the Marigold How I Learned to Earn Rewards I Just Can't Break It to You Dregs of the Wine Get Simulated
If I were to add five more:
Greens and Blues Talent Plaster of Paris All The Saints Hey Debussy
Subject to change...

To be clear, that was more of an album that might please those looking for a reunion album that sounds a bit like Pixies 1.0. If I were to do a top 10, it would be more like this:
What Goes Boom Magdalena Greens and Blues Blue Eyed Hexe This Is My Fate Silver Bullet Daniel Boone Death Horizon Doggerel Motoroller
Five More
Indie Cindy Head Carrier Arms of Mrs. Mark of Cain Catfish Kate Mercy Me

As Doolittle is a perfect album I go for 15 tracks
1. Nomatterday 2. Oyster Beds 3. Hey Debussy 4. Motorolla 5. Under the Marigold 6. Plaster of Paris 7. Chapel Hill 8. Ready for Love 9. Bird of Prey 10. Ring the Bell 11. Chapel Hill 12. Snakes 13. Whoose more sorry now? 14. Mal de Mer 15. Doggerel
This is not easy though. I reckon there is 2 14track perfect Pixies 2.0 records at this stage |

Basically just my 11 favourite Pixies 2.0 songs in as much of an album order as I can position them right now. Not as cohesive as I’d have liked but good nonetheless.
1. In the Arms of Mrs. Mark of Cain 2. On Graveyard Hill 3. Greens and Blues 4. Ain’t That Pretty at All [Warren Zevon Cover] 5. Bam Thwok 6. Bagboy [Album Version] 7. Blue Eyed Hexe 8. Um Chagga Lagga 9. Bird of Prey 10. All I Think About Now 11. Daniel Boone

I would build that weird tracklist, with a decrescendo feel:
Painterman is Coming Bagboy What Goes Boom Baal's Back Indie Cindy Oona Bam Thwok The Good Works of Cyrus Caught in a Dream Chapel Hill Please Don't Go O Little Cloud Los Surfers Muertos Get Simulated Hypnotised All The Saints Mercy Me Death Horizon Plaster of Paris
-- "Aristophanes! (gong sounds)" "Fucking up my devotion!"

I think I would sneak Bats in the Afternoon Sky into the playlist, it seems to fit with the mood of the last 3 2.0 albums |
