I’m not asking, I’m telling.
Share a live Frank song with the forum so we can revisit it. It can be an old favorite or one you just discovered. Tell us what you like about it? Share the Frank.
I actually just discovered this Abstract Plain performance this year. I like his soulful vocals on it, and just the solo acoustic rendition of a song that is quite produced on the album with a full band. This is a great clip. Comment on it and then give us one of your own to enjoy.

I'll share two. Both are ones I uploaded many many years ago.
Freedrom Rock - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG-ZQWfL2eU Love the energy of the '96 shows and this is from a rare full gig on video. Quality of the youtube clip isn't the best - apologies for that, but a cracking version of a cracking tune. I uploaded a few others from the set and the full version must be floating round somewhere on youtube too I'd have thought.
Pong/Thal/Plain - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaViidD5xqo A crushing mini-set from a classic lineup.
all i can say, thank god for polio! brian |

Thanks Benji! Can always count on you for the good stuff. Those are amazing. I imagine Thalassocracy is a tough one to sing live.
And thanks Rivum. That is one of my favorite concert videos and contains my all time favorite Czar. Often when I listen to the studio Czar I try to sing the second verse the way Frank does in this one, but I can never do it. Such an amazing performance. Love seeing (some) of the crowd into it as well.
I'll come back with another live performance clip soon, but I don't want to be a hog. |

Johnny Barleycorn live on Conan. Band was FB, EDF, Jack Kidney with the late Billy Block and Duane Jarvis.
At the time I was not too enthusiastic - it wasn't new Pixies and it wasn't Catholics - but man now I wish I had seen this line up.

That's a really good one too, thanks Stevio10.
Frank's voice seems so low in that clip. I always wonder how the audience took to that song. It's about as different from Pixies 1.0 as you could imagine.
And who is that sitting next to Conan? Joe Buck? |

I keep coming back to this one time and time again. So much energy and Lyle W has fashioned himself a special hat - what more do you need? (apart from more than three songs)

Abstract Plain might be my favorite song on TOTY, so you know I like it a lot. I still remember hearing it for the first time in my car through the cassette deck on a nice May day in 1994.
Anyway, any performance of this song is gold, but this one is the one I'm sharing today. So there you go. Enjoy if you haven't seen it yet. (If you watch it you can potentially be the one thousandth viewer, which is both awesome and pathetic.).

That really is such a good version of Calistan. That whole show is epic. Extended versions by the Catholics are the best. Man what a great song.
Thanks for posting McDutchie. |

I went to a show with this lineup and...I thought it was pretty bad. EDF on bass kept things so straight and didn't do any of my favorite fills or moments on the albums. The band as a whole felt kind of stiff and lifeless compared to the Catholics videos and shows I had listened to. My first time seeing Frank live and I left really disappointed in the whole thing. |

The 93 shows were the best. Got to see one of them at good ol’ Roseland. I think 93 Frank was special: he was completely free to explore a new identity and yet at the show I was at some people yelled for Pixies, but he was just doing him and it was great and pure, the imperial Frank Black. I wonder if he got the idea for “Mosh don’t pass the guy” from this show |

Man I miss the Catholics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e3lhITzrQs And no Scott Boutier on drums - I didn't realise he missed this tour. Anyone know which shows exactly as the different playing is quite obvious in places so I'm surprised I hadn't noticed it before on the plethora of live shows I've listened to from 2003. I saw them 2 weeks later in London and I'd have thought I'd have noticed the "new" drummer...

I was at this show. The band was fabulous. Scott was on paternity leave if I remember correctly. Stand in drummer was named Joe, decent stand in but not Scott. At the bar before the show I met and introduced myself to the sadly departed Dave Phillips. RIP. Absolute gent, came and met my friends and was lovely company. He was an Awesome player. Loved all his contributions on those Catholics records. |

Came across this posted on FB&C's group on Facebook.
Recorded just before DITS was released from 2001 from soundboard, sounds great.
