I happen to agree with the swimmer. A lot these replies however are very close-minded. You guys need to take a deep analytical look at both yourselves and what you read. Just because it is in a newspaper, a website, or even a text book doesn't mean it is true. You people need to learn how to think for yourselves.
The fact that you simply responded to swimmer's orginal post by simply spouting off names and pointless statistics proves a lot. It proves the US Government is succeeding in blinding its people. Some of these "conspiracy theories" are so obvious it hard not to believe. Everybody has the right to their own opinion, but at least learn how to state it in a way that can be convincing. Anybody can type a bunch of names and make fun of people. I urge everyone here to read all of the posts on the enduring freedom topic if you haven't already. There are some good arguements.

The thing is, this topic might actually be interesting to discuss in real life, but on this forum, somehow, it went sour and that's too bad.
I'm not singling anyone out here, but it's too bad people get so defensive/offensive on this forum. I know it happens with me too. It's as if we are all trying to win some argument that shouldn't even exist. And the arguments wont end until people admit they were a butt-face (which probably wont happen). I know I've said some lame stuff that probably didn't make sense. I think the reason is that it get's so confusing and no one knows what the real topic is anymore because there are about 15 sub-topics. Therefore everyone starts to sound ridiculous. It's just hard to tell where people are coming from on the internet.
I could very well have been on the swimmer's side in this topic if i had maybe read the posts differently and not gotten carried away in the bickering. So, apologies to you swimmer. I will be more open to your other posts and try not to be bias.

This might be beside the usual hatemongering in this thread, but it would be interesting to know what some of the americans on this board think will happen if you invade iraq. Ok, you'll win the war - no problem. And you'll spend more money on the military (which must have been a pretty good reason for some to go to war). And then? Would you really like to face an army of humiliated, poor, "almost as fanatic as your own right wing movement" suicide bombers - determined to make you pay in every possible way?

Here's what i've heard from some of these patriotic buffoons. (I haven't done much travelling, so i'm going entirely on 2nd-hand info.)
Many countries are quite annoyed with Americans. I've heard that Americans are often very rude, selfish and self-righteous. (I'm not saying this is true, but this is what i've heard folks from other countries say.)
Due to this, many places are not very 'warm' to Americans.
Canadians can be difficult to discern from Americans, we don't really have different accents, wear similar cloths, say similar things, etc..
So in order to avoid being mistaken for an American, they will be overt in making it clear they are Canadian. Many traveller friends tell me they get a sigh of relief from whatever person, and are treated quite nicely and hear several explitives about 'those Americans'. (You might hear similar stories about Aussies and Kiwis..hehe..)
Again, this is what i've heard. My friends could be lying of course.
Anyone care to verify this from first-hand experience? |

That way we can have 'adult' conversations, which i get the feeling some of us would be interested in?
'Touchy' topics can be brought up, and flames will not be tolerated..thoughts? |

in my experience i've never been treated crappy because i'm american. a friend of mine spent two years in taiwan, and he said they loved americans there.

Swimmers post in my opinion has turned out to be one of the coolest posts on this forum...... good idea mate, you've certainly generated a great deal of discussion, some worthwhile reading, and some I should print out and use to wipe my arse when I have ran out of shit role.
My opinion is that I don't reckon that the US Government were responsible for Sept 11th, but I can certainly understand why some people have formed that opinion / theory..... The US Government is infamous for corruption and lies, back in history and in modern times. I wouldn't be surprised if they knew something was going to happen and let it occur so that they could use it as an excuse to exert their force.... like Pearl Harbour for instance.... generally the US public were against US joining the fight against the Nazi's during world war 2, but there is some evidence to show that the US Government let Pearl Harbour occur to give them the excuse to join the war, and in that way US public opinion would change radically.
The US government are verging on criminal actions again with this war on Terrorism, for me and for alot of British people (and I'd confidently say that 95+% of Brits hate the US Government and wish that Tony Blair didn't have his cock so far up Bush's arse that he was forced to stick so close by the the US) thought that Bush, whilst shaken by the horrific events (and there is no doutbt that this was the most horrific event I have ever witnessed) of Sept 11th, used the actions as an excuse to take a shot at their most recent enemies. Now the US Government thinks itself justified to attack whomever gets in their way.... and Bush acts like the situation is one of an action film and not real life..... and its an even more depressing fact that these bastards have the biggest nuclear arsenal, and are the most powerful people in the world.
In my opinion there should be more discussions like this, as these are very interesting, its a pity that some people cannot read properly and get offended easily. For those people, this email is against US Government and not American people....... its fucking sad that I feel that I have to point that out.

Yeah, it's gross because Hollywood tends to belittle events such as Pearl Harbor and the Titanic sinking by the fluffy love stories they add in. At the end of the movies, instead of thinking "what a terrible tradegy", people are thinking "oh that was so romantic."
