okay it is so true that there is a major need for bass tabs. OTHER THAN FIDDLE RIDDLE AND THE MARSIST. that's all that i have found. i know i can play this stuff, but i do not have tabbing skills. it would be great if the site had a whole section for bass tabs, right next to guitar. i know a lot of people have figured some of the songs out, but don't bother to take the time to tab them out b/c it doesn't better them b/c they don't need it anymore. but i will be forever greatful to the person that enables frank black fans to be able to cover songs easier w/ a provided bass tab.
please restore my faith in human decensy, faceforaudio |

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the Tabmaster or anything. I couldn't imagine tabbing all those bass tabs.
Ok, so maybe I'm not as understanding towards bass players needs because I mainly play guitar. But I've said this before, and I'll say it again... the bass pretty much follows the root note of the guitar like a cat chasing a mouse (sorry, that was lame). I know there are riffs that the bassline will go off on, but you can definitely use most of the guitar tabs as a bassis for what the bass does.
I'm not saying we don't need bass tabs or they would be redundant, but for now you can at least get a start and get familiar with all the notes of the fret board and differen't keys and progressions and crap like that. Practice your scales too, then you can make up basslines that maybe even Dave Mc. doesn't play on the albums

If you are a bass player who is familiar w/ guitar, extrapolating a bass line by a)looking at the guitar tab and b) listening to the song should not be diffcult at all.
I could see how someone who ONLY plays bass might have a rougher time in the translation.... |

It seems that usually a guitar tab would be more useful than a bass tab. For instance... follow this song with my made up lyrics and chords...
1. guitar tab
G Bm Em C G
Sometimes you like my shoe because you don't know what to do
2. bass tab
g-----------------------------------------------------------------
d-----------------------------------------------------------------
a------------------------2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2--------------------3-----
e-3---3--3--3--3---3---3-----------------0-0-0-0-0--0-0-0-0----3--
Sometimes you like my shoe because you don't know what to do
The guitar tab actually says more about the key of the song and what scales would fit with this particular riff because it includes what chords are minor. The bass tab just implies G E B C.
Or maybe my example is crappy. ha

You should definitely flesh out the rest of that song, Derek. :) |
