I am consistently disappointed with the nominations and winners of this (insert sarcastic tone) "prestigious" music award. This year is even worse than ever. Avril Lavigne? Give me a fucking break. And what is up with songs and albums being nominated two years in a row?

The only decent category is the alternative one, but even that seems very lazy in its choices. These days The Grammies are almost indistinguishable from the the Billboard awards which are entirely sales based. It's a pathetic award fueled by crusty old farts.

I doubt anyone here would disagree with this, so this post is sort of a fish-in-barrel offering.

Did you hear Avril say "David BOW-eee" while she was reading the noms? - was pathetic, I thought.

Maybe it was tribute to Frank Black and his "Western Star".

well you know he took his name from the bowie knife, and that's pronounced BOO-ee. so, really, take your pick it doesn't much matter.

Well, something about it was annoying - she said "Bow-eee" as in BOW WOW. It just seemed wrong and stupid because she didn't even seem to know who he was. Kids today!

Craig Kilborn just ripped her a new one for it. She sucks. I don't think she's cute at all, she's emaciated, greasy, and whore-ishly made up. That necktie bullshit 80's throw back has to go also. How can someone say "Pixies Rule" and then mispronounce "Bowie"?

Oh well, she won't survive her second album. I'd take solace in that, except I'm sure another disposable kiddie porn icon will take her place. They're like Terminators.

In an ironic twist of fate, an audiobook I edited got nominated in the spoken word category. Al Franken's "Oh, the Things I Know" I must admit a hypocritical desire to have that trophy. I think if he wins, I can pay a couple hundred bucks to get my own statue. Maybe it's just the ridiculous idea of displaying it in my cheap ass apartment in Dorchester that makes me want one.

The ironing is delicious.

Preach it, Atheist!!

Also, very cool about the Al Franken book - congrats! Did you read the new SNL book? Franken came off kind of weird in that, but I still like him. He's "good enough, smart enough"...

That would be very redeeming if QOTSA win.

I guess I have to give them some credit for giving a Grammy to They Might Be Giants last year, but even that was ten years too late.

Almost all metal is repetitive. I think it better establishes the groove and also inspires longer head banging. Remember "In Justice for All"? That's a damn fine record, but also very repetitive.

I will admit that track 4 is pretty boring. I always skip it.

i dunno, i just expected more from that record - and their live show
their live show felt like it was about a half hour too long - and i certainly didn't need to see their bassist's cock when he played the encore naked - that was an...ahem...interesting night

yah i think the cds kinda boring, im not really a metal fan in general but sometimes i like that kinda stuff and i heard i twas good so i got it, its not bad though, i listen to it every once in a while.

anyway, its funny that flaming lips got a nomination for best instrumental yet wilco didnt get anything, when YHF is cooler than Yoshimi heh, although Yoshimi is pretty good still. Heavy Metal Drummer seems like a song that should win something. or they could have just replaced the vocals with guitar in I Am Trying To Break Your Heart and won the instrumental category. oh well

my girlfriend and i like to make fun of Avril Lavigne a lot in our spare time.. like, in an interview once she actually said, "i'm punk!".. which i like to quote often..

but the Bowie (Baaauuuieee) thing absolutely takes the cake. I don't care if she's only 18. I don't care if she doesn't listen to David Bowie, and I don't care if they pronounce it that way in the UK.. she is such an idiot!

i didn't actually see it but someone told me about it, and i just thought it was amazing.

she's already worked in the music industry for a while now. uh, grew up in the United States listening to music.. and somehow never heard someone mention David Bowie???

that would be like mis-pronouncing John Lennon (John Len-ON!)..

the whole thing kind of sums up what the music industry is like these days.

i occasionally eat chateaubriand.

Avril Galvignee did mispronounce it though--you could tell. I mean she may have happened to use the British pronunciation, but it was clear that she had no idea who he was. She kind of hesitated, and stumbled like she was flat out reading.

The "Pixies Rule" thing was on her drummers kick drum so I suppose she probably also thinks it refers to Tinkerbell and her pals.
