Do not despair! Not for nothing am I the FAQ lady! Handyman comes off of the Frank Black & Teenage Fanclub: John Peel Session. I quote the notes:
In the spring of 1994 I was in England, and once again John Peel was kind enough to offer me a session. I was alone with the acoustic guitar, and so I called my old friend Chas Banks, who manages Teenage Fanclub, to see if they would record the session with me. The Fanclubs and I had previously only socialized backstage at some lovely gin mill or sitting around in an exhaust-filled tour bus, so to actually "cram jam" (rehearse very quickly) for a Peel session seemed a step up. We did Otis Blackwell's Handyman a la 1977, and it continues to be one of my favourite recordings. The other cover was a Del Shannon song I had recently fallen in love with, Sister Isabel. On this song, Norman and Raymond instantly added their own intro, which to me sounds big in the Back In Black sense of the word. I had a couple of new songs, The Jacques Tati (I wonder if those Glaswegian background vocals could ever be matched--truly precious) and The Man Who Was Too Loud, my tribute to Jonathan Richman. I must thank producer Ted De Bono who has a gentle voice and a professional style conducive to the under-the-gun-but-still-fun environment of a Peel session.--Frank Black
I got my copy from amazon.com. Hope this helps!
Sarah
Edit: Also just remembered that there's a version of Handyman on The Black Sessions Live in Paris. It's harder to track down. I'm willing to bet the version you've heard is the Teenage Fanclub one. |

I love Frank Black and I love Teenage Fanclub so of course I would recommend the EP to anyone who likes either. |

The studio version of Handyman and Breathless are both on a tribute to Otis Blackwell. In addition he also wrote quite a few of Elvis' hits. They are both excellent versions. They are both recorded with studio musicians, if I'm not mistaken it's actually Otis Reddings band. |

Ive got a feeling that Frank credits Handyman to Otis Blackwell and Jimmy Jones on the Kitchen Tapes...... could be wrong though as I haven't checked. |
