Anyone heard the "CAMDEN vs CALIBRE" cover of Where is my mind? Two Belgian bands covering the song, and I believe the profits are going to some kind of charity. It's getting quite some airplay on the semi-alternative radio-station "Studio Brussel". I think this is a good thing, except for the fact that, even though they try, the vocals don't do justice to the Pixies' version.

There's one I downloaded a while ago, I'm not sure what country it's from, but it's called "Var ist mine hoof?" I think, and has a harmonica. It's really interesting, but I lost it some time ago in a computer shift, and can't find it again online.
If anybody knows what I'm talking about, it's worth finding.

well, that's not the song I'm talking about, because that one is not a translation. I'll try to find the "Var ist mine hoof" version when I get home from work, sounds funny :)

I just remembered the name of the band, it's "Kroos Kreuk" or something to that effect, I'm probably butchering the spelling, but just more to help anyone find it, I enjoyed it, I even played it on my TV show.

Koos Kreuk is definately a dutch name, so he's maybe from Holland or Belgium
Var ist mine hoof, sounds like the dutch translation of ''where's my mind'': Waar is mijn hoofd?
Var=Waar ist=is mine=mijn hoof=hoofd
So maybe it's a sort of dutch like Afrikaans or some dialect from a farmer...

Koos is not a Belgian name, and I doubt it is a name from the Netherlands either. It does resemble Kees, which is a Dutch name. But I never heard of Koos. It could be Afrikaans, but to me it sound more like some Scandinavian language, probably Swedish (these languages also resemble Dutch, even though I don't understand most of it).

Sheeesh it ain't Afrikaans I can tell you that much. Probably some weird outback Flemish band is more likely.

Flemish? I'm from Belgium, more specifically Flanders, so I think I would recognise Flemish if I see it. My bets are still on Swedish. :)

Koos Kreuk does not sound swedish (in a norwegian's ear). |

Typing ''Koos Kreuk'' on the google site gave my this info:
Var ist mine hoof is indeed ''Waar is mijn hoofd'' and Koos Kreuk is indeed from Holland.
In 1997 a few dutch artists attended a contest for pixies covers.
They where recorded and put out (PIAS) as Death to the pixies, we're better...
so that's one mysterie solved
Nada Surf did a cover of Where's my mind? it's on their new single Inside of love

Ok, if they gave me the right title, I would have known :) Should've been smart enough to just look it up in google myself...

Oh yeah, I actually have that album! It stinks! It is so incredibly bad. It's almost bad enough to forgive the Germans for conquering Benelux twice! It seriously is that bad :-) |

Have you heard the Nada Surf one? I'm thinking most of you have. Not a patch on the original but still not bad. Weezer's version of Velouria, as much as I love them too, isn't great though.
They got a ranch they call No. 51! |
