Hey all
I'm music director for a small Pittsburgh college radio station that barely broadcasts off campus, but i do get to interview some pretty cool people (Mike Watt, Sparta, some local artists). This past week i interviewd up and coming musician Ben Kweller. I don't know how you guys feel about him as a musician, but he did have something pretty cool to say. I have this question that i try and ask every interview-ee that i can and that is that if an alien crash landed in your backyard and you had to give him 5 songs that best represent what music is to you, what would you give? along with some other great songs Ben said "Headache" by Frank Black. I know it's not super cool or anything, just interesting, and always nice to see fellow FB fans.

Ben is good and he will only get better. You can hear the Stephen Malkmus (Pavement) influence in his singing, but he is an original. Too much over exposure might hurt him now, but I'm making a bold prediction and stating that he will be a major influence in 10 or so years with a huge underground following. He just needs to mature for this to happen and time is on his side.

I met Ben when he toured Australia recently in September. Top bloke and brilliant musician. His debut solo album Sha Sha is awesome. I asked him what music he was into and he said stuff like Pavement, Weezer, Violet Femmes, great to see he's into Frank as well.
