Dallas Observer interview (http://www.dallasobserver.com/issues/2002-12-05/music2.html/1/index.html)
Absolutely nothing new, but if you need to read everything...

Also for those fans and collectors whose completism extends to gathering together cover songs, two bands have Pixies covers on their new, just released in 2002, live albums.

The Toadies new live album (http://www.toadiesmusic.com ... beware, lots of Flash) has "Where is My Mind?". The band had a minor hit in the waning days of alt-rock radio called "Tyler" that cops the "siren"-like guitar part on "Where" so I guess they're acknowledging the influence here.

And the Loud Family's new live album, From Ritual to Romance (http://www.loudfamily.com/frtr.html) has a version of "Debaser".

Just for the record, everyone should check out the Loud Family. Scott Miller was doing what REM was doing quite a while before they were even together (and he did it better, in my opinion).

I uploaded a version of the Toadies cover of WIMM to the FTP site. It is not from the LIVE CD, but it is from their tour last year. It was picked up from a radio/internet broadcast.

And for the record the Toadies were a great band who had a long 12 year career cut short from the lack of Record company support.

Well, I guess if the Toadies are sort of paying homage to the fact that a guitar riff they wrote sounds like Where is My Mind, it's a cool little thing to do, but covering Debaser is getting a bit redundant. They've both just been covered so many times, and Debaser is a tough one because you really need Frank's wild voice for that song.

Attn: Dave Noisy:

"I mean, I've written--what?--250 songs. You can't get all choked up about every single damn one of them; I'd be a mess, I wouldn't be able to function. So you have to have a little bit of an aloof attitude about your own music. It isn't because you're detached; it's just that at the end of the day it's just rock-and-roll songs. You can't make a mountain out of a molehill."
