I don't think anyone has mentioned that Reid Paley will be on tour with FB & the C's on the upcoming tour. Be sure to get to your respective shows on time so you don't miss out. Reid is a great musician and I think all of you who haven't seen him will enjoy seeing him perform. Any other Paley fans on board? |

I saw Reid open for Frank and Dave (one of Frank's solo shows) at the North Star Bar in Philly in Feb '01. He was pretty entertaining. There was this girl in the balcony that kept yelling "Take off your shirt!". I guess you had to be there, but it was pretty hilarious. It'll be fun to see him again, I'm sure.

I have a fun story about Reid, from the June 15/16 2000 shows when The Bennies opened up for Frank Black. I got to go backstage (I was their 2 day roadie) to see all the rock and roll debauchery (sp?). At the 9:30 Club soundcheck, after one of the songs, it was dead silent, and Reid says "Do we sound like AC/DC yet?" It was great, I guess you had to be there...Anyhow, we got to talk to them and such, and Reid is cool as fuck. He's such a nice, honest guy...he's really cool. He actually bailed me out, man.
At the 9:30 Club, I went out from the backstage area on to the regular upstairs balcony (where the regular folk can go) and I forgot to bring my pass with me. On the way back in, the bouncer obviously stopped me and I told him what had happened (and that I was with The Bennies.) So he goes back and gets Reid Paley and his guys, and he comes out and says "Oh yeah, he's with the other band." What a guy. I of course gave him a big thanks, and later that night bought their CD and had them all sign it (yeah, I'm still a lame fan). It's really good...really honest old school rock and roll. |

Yes, he's definitely a cool, friendly guy. He and his brother were hanging around after one show a couple years ago and they both seemed to have a good sense of humor. The last time I saw him was at a show he played at a bar here in Baltimore. He mostly plays up in Brooklyn, NY though since he lives up there. |

I just saw him playing in Brooklyn, place called Pete's Candy Store, last Sat. He always has a few wry comments, witty lyrics. Fun times with Reid. Some of his new songs are even more memorable than stuff off of Lucky's Tune and Revival. I asked when he will be releasing, but he has no date! |

First time I saw or heard of Reid Paley was when he, and the god-foresaken "Moldy Peaches" opened for FB @ the Mercury Lounge (accoustic show, Feb,00) Fortunately the "Peaches" played first (painful). Then Reid came out and played a completely off-center set that completely through the crowd off....it was great. Since then I've seen Reid Paley several times (Hanks' Saloon, was a great venue!)I missed the show @ Pete's Candy Store though. After getting Revival, I was doing some research on the web I found the below quote @ http://www.xxs-records.de/Paley.htm and thought that you all might find it enjoyable. Needless to say, I am really looking forward to seeing Reid Paley again...I hope he plays more shows this winter than he did over the summer.....
"Years ago Reid Paley and I were neighbors, both struggling but not starving musicians (let me say straight out Reid is a fine cook) in a city called Boston. The band that Reid fronted at the time, The Five, kicked all the other band’s asses. Frankly, Reid has always been a splendid vocalist and writer in this hodgepodge genre mostly called rock music. And Reid is and has always been a smart guy; he turned me on to Mose Allison and Metal Urbaine on the same day for crying out loud. After all that Boston crap Reid disappeared for awhile into his native Brooklyn, although he did keep me on his Christmas card mailing list; to this day I receive a plain white card every December with the words ´It's the most wonderful time of the year` typed on it, I imagine from some the same ancient, greasy typewriter he bangs his lyrics out on. A few years ago Reid came to see me play in Manhattan. He had a 50's hollow-bodied guitar and big old Fender amplifier in tow, and he looked like he was ready to kick my ass again, which he did. We hung out after that and made a record, and then he made another one with Feldman. We've done a bunch of tours together since then, and I always look forward to riding in Reid's car because he still listens to the best records. If you hear Reid Paley I assure you that you will either A) love him, or B) enjoy hating him and then STILL end up loving him eventually because he is, as I say, a splendid vocalist and writer. What? You want some kind of description of the artist and his music? Just fucking listen to the guy and enjoy his prowess. Frank Black, Los Angeles
