frank (or anybody else who has quotes about it) what's the relationship of these two songs? is it like the two versions of black rider, where one just evolved from the other from goofing around? or is it a more deliberate, hmm, reprise for lack of a better term off the top of my head at 3am. :P
i've always been curious and have never read any anecdotes. maybe because there's nothing interesting there :) just curious. |

Don't quite know why but I initially related HCYM to "I'm Waiting for the Man" by Velvet Underground. So Lou Reed sings "I'm waiting for my man . . ." Then Black Francis says "Here comes your man."
And isn't "There Goes My Gun" just about that special moment in a man's life when the "gun" goes off?

You're not insane. I am, however, for implicating 'Where Is My Mind?' in this heretofore unexamined mystery. |

I see a strong resemblance between Wave of Mutilation and Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf). What's up with that?

Seek some psychological help dude....those two songs are miles apart.....that's as far fetched as comparing Vamos from Pilgrim to Vamos from SR........

The Vamos on SR is way different cause it's all just like "You fuckin die" or something...the song after Vamos on SR sounds a lot more like the Vamos on COP...you know what I mean?

Velvety- the verse chord progression of There Goes My Gun is quite similar to the main chord progression used in Hang Wire (though the two have different root notes). |

The music to There Goes My Gun always reminded me of Instant Karma by John Lennon. And I always thought Frank kind of sounded like Axyl Rose when he sings "there goes my guuun" even though I've never really like "g n r", but I really like the song.
The sexual "gun" context is probably right, but I always kind of saw it in a violent way. He's calling to a stranger in the distance "friendafoe!" but before he can be totally sure he keeps shooting them anyway, kind of playing it off as an accident. |

i always liked how HCYM and TGMG were like polar ends of the same idea - one is a melodic singalong, and the other is a very twisted, distorted, not so melodic one about a gun (physical or metaphorical). i think it's cool
