Frank's the MASTER on an accoustic guitar!
This version is brilliant!
Ever heard an accoustic version of Abstract plain?
Maybe even better!

CRiPES! NO i haven't,...and now I will indeed search for that rendition. Sweet to know. I wonder hwo many other tracks from TOTY are done acoustically? CRiPES a whole acoustic ver of the album would be incredible!

the acoustic version of Abstract Plain is on the "Black Sessions" bootleg. It's a tasty morsel indeed.

I want to hear the acoustic version of Freedom Rock ... where did you hear it at, ELoRPS?

What I'd really like Frank to release is a compilation of all his recorded acoustic performances.

that would kick ass, Derek. Or maybe take it a step further an release a double-cd. One cd with just acoustic versions, a 2nd cd with the equivalent of Oddballs II. That would rule.

That would be very cool. Recordings of the accoustic shows are great b/c he generally plays at least 35 songs.

This question is answered in the FAQ, but I think The "Black Sessions" is the only OFFICIALLY RELEASED full-length CD/LP of a Live Frank Black show.

a few years ago (pre-Catholics) i put together a cdr of acoustic Frank tracks for myself. i used to listen to it all the time but haven't in years. i should break it out again!
anyways, it goes like this..

Frank Black "Acoustic" (1993-1996) 74m cdr
1. (I want to live on an) Abstract Plain
2. At The End of the World
3. Brackish Boy
4. Calistan
5. Czar
6. Duke of Earl
7. Freedom Rock
8. Fu Manchu
9. Handyman
10. I Don't Want to Hurt You (Every Single Time)
11. I Heard Ramona Sing
12. The Jaques Tati
13. Jumping Bean
14. Kicked in the Taco
15. the Last Stand of Shazeb Andleeb
16. the Man Who Was Too Loud
17. Men In Black
18. Modern Age
19. Old Black Dawning
20. Pray A Little Faster
21. Pure Denizen of the Citizen's Band
22. Space is Gonna Do Me Good
23. This Is Where I Belong
24. UFO (Man of Steel)
25. Village of the Sun
26. Whatever Happened to Pong?
27. You Ain't Me
28. You Never Heard About Me
Notes: This is a cdr i put together from a few tapes I got. The quality varies, but is pretty good for the most part. Most tracks are from radio sessions, just Frank solo with his acoustic guitar. A couple tracks are from the Hello Recordings ep. "UFO" is a short jam, with the DJ making up words while Frank plays an early version of "Man of Steel".

He played Modern Age already in 1996 or earlier?

Don't forget Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day! The acoustic version kicks ass, but the quality of the recording certainly doesn't.

I totally love Frank's acoustic versions.Anyone remember when he played Shazeb Andleeb acoustic live on MTV 120 minutes. He also played a bit of Los Angeles and the beginning of Ozzy's Crazy Train.I loved when he put his head together with Matt Pinfield and they looked like siamese twins. And not acoustic but I also have taped when he played Pong,Thalassocracy,Abstract Plain and Headache with Nick Vincent,Eric Feldman, and Lyle Workman again on 120 minutes.

SO perhaps the next mission is to rip the CD and share it?
