I play guitar, violin, upright bass, some piano, and I try to sing. Hopefully I'll be adding to that list in the future. Music is fun.

hahah - how do you define 'real musician'?
I've been playing for year, and you can download almost 50 demo songs i've recorded from the website in my profile.
I play guitar, bass, sing...

I am not certain I am a real musician since I'm not signed to a label. Just like a writer isn't a writer until they are published, cuz then it's finalized.
Haha, I play guitar and write songs every so often. I probably have around 30 songs total that are fully realized songs (at least I feel they're close to finished) and plenty that are works in progress. I can play guitar fairly well, but am not much with singing (though I've improved immensely from when I started playing guitar), and definitely my recording is ultra lo-fi, as far from glossy as can be, but not always because I'm trying to get that feel. I just don't know shit about recording and don't have the equipment to make a good quality recording.
Edit - when I say I have 30 songs, I mean 30 between ones that are finished and ones that are works in progress. What the fuck does it matter that I clarify this? I don't know.
Edit two - what's especially funny about this is that 30 songs is just a guess without even attempting to get a rough estimate. I just imagine that's what it is.

Keys, vocals, drums. Well, drums are more of a dabbling fancy.
Played bass for the first time the other day and loved it, seems pretty easy to catch on to quickly (though, of course, difficult to be good).

i'm not really a real musician, though recently i did give someone my contact info and wrote "Gavin Bachner (musician)" that was weird. I felt like a liar. but it's a long story. Anyways, I've got some mp3s you can find through the link my profile, but they are all at least a year old. i've been meaning to record some new stuff someday. oh and i did 3 crappy FB covers that somehow made it into the "b-sides" folder for the You Ain't Me tribute ("nadine" was the actual submission for consideration).
So has anybody put out a REAL cd.. like with a working UPC bar code on the back and everything? Come on, rockstars, don't be modest! |

Well, I guess you could say that I play the bass, or at least attempt to. I do play in a band, we're called Willum and the Works. Actually, just had our first gig last month. A lot of fun. This whole musician thing is great.

I'm not a real musician, but I play one on TV. I play guitar mostly, but can also play bass, pretend to play keyboard, and half-ass-idly sing. Apparently I sound like Malkimus.

I'm new to the forum. Feel more at home with so mant players around. I play guitar. Had a deal with epic in the day when deals were easier to get. Sold over 500,000 units. Not a superband but formidable.
Used my 15 minutes of fame to promote some indie records for some friends. All you had to do was make the program director think it was hip (easier if you got him drunk) and he would stick it in rotation. KROQ was the easiest. Once you got them other stations around the country would add it. (I got KROQ to play INXS's "One Thing" and they did pretty good.) The business is so screwed up these days I wouldn't even know how to go about promoting a record.
Is anyone trying to promote their inde releases? How? Having any luck? Plans? |

Hehe. Another reason I like you dear. Malkmus rocks.
IM not a real musician in the slightest. BUt I do play guitar, bass when im bored. keyboard/piano..and i used to play Trumpet. dotn think i could play trumpet anymore - after i started smoking and stuff.
But really im more of a behind-the-scenes type peerson. I ran my own magazine for a while, and i do have my own live music promotions compnay, which when i RE-LAUNCH it, is going to be 10x better than before. yeah. I dabbled in a little band management and stuff too.
Im gonna over throw the music industry. And the film industry...
