Some ideas to help everyone have more success with the online ticket sites.
- First of all, it is all about speed. Remember, the touts (scalpers) have computer programs that will automatically buy tickets the second they're available, and complete the checkout process in a blink of an eye. You need to try to be as fast as you can.
- Learn the website. Choose another show that is already on sale at same venue, and see what questions you will have to answer. Look at the types of tickets that are available and whatever other choices you have to make, and decide what you want. Go through the entire checkout process -- even submit an order with a fake credit card number so you can see it all. There shouldn't be any surprises when it counts.
- Get some software to fill in all the fields for you. Typing is slow and error prone (remember the tout's programs!!). And since you already cased the joint, you know exactly what needs to be entered. If you're using Internet Explorer, try the Google Toolbar. I believe Mozilla/Firebird/Firebox has this feature built in. Set it up by going through the process of buying tickets to another event at the same venue, just be sure not to accidentally buy tickets you don't want . A good idea might be to change the first digit in your credit card number when experimenting with this, just make sure to change it back when you're ready to order.
- Try to do it on high speed Internet. You have a big disadvantage if you're using dialup.
- If you want tickets for more than once night, open up two browser windows and order them at the same time.
- Set your alarm for 8:30am, not 9am. Get some coffee, get comfortable, and get mentally ready to move fast. Get your browser on the page where it says the tickets are not yet on sale, and start hitting "refresh" in your browser a few minutes before the tickets go on sale. As soon as they're available, click it, and go through the process.
Anyone have any other tips? -shoOz-

Also, if you need to get past a credit card verification form to move on, you can usually put in Visa 4111111111111111 (that's a four with 15 ones). This number will pass the simple number check (technically called LUHN-10) but always fail when the transaction is attempted with the credit card company.
good luck, -sh00z-

I suggest doing everything that shooz said, and also having you or your loved one/s on the phone trying that way. It can't hurt to try that. Of course this is a problem if you are restricted by dial up. oh, and ask mommy and daddy to buy them too. worst case, you have extras. I don't think anybody will have a prob finding takers on extra pixies tickets.

With ticketmaster, after you get past the first page (where you have to type in # of tickets, and click a button whether to pick them up or not), you have 5 minutes to complete the order. During this time your tickets are held for you, so theres no need to rush that part.

Yes -- most of my tips were geared towards ticketweb.co.uk, which does not seem to reserve tickets for you before your billing details are entered. It also seems like a good idea to take advantage of web sites that let you create an account to hold all your information. If you prepare this in advance, chances are lower that you will make a mistake in the early morning rush!

Also, I have found that ticketmaster canada is very rarely slow or bogged down, even for big big shows. I think its still the best way to get tickets (as opposed to phone or in person).
The one exception to this is Leafs playoff tickets, which seem to cripple the system when they go on sale :)
