Hi All,
I cannot seem to make a decision, and was wondering if you guys could give me honest and sensible advice about whether I should make the trip to Coachella or not.
The problem is that I have my wedding ceremony in Beijing in August, and this is going to cost quite a bit if cash, not just because of the reception costs, but because I'll not work for a month and will spend a shitload whilst entertaining family and friends over here.
I think I have worked out my finances pretty well and considered everything, and with all the costs of the wedding, plus 1000 quid to get to Coachella and back I should come back with about 2400 pounds to my name. However this is based on the assumption that I save alot of money each month until August. I guess as well we will get money given to us at our wedding ceremony (as that is the tradition here in China)....
So, what do you reckon?? Should I go to Coachella or not, if you were in my shoes would you take the risk???? Sorry if this is a boring thread, but I need some good advice as I am driving my wife crazy moaning about whether I should go or not. She things I am crazy if I do go, but last night she got fed up with my moaning and told me that I should just go because I'd regret it if I didn't.
So Cult of Frank, El Barto, Dave Noisy and all the rest of you, please give me some good advice about this that will finally help me come to a decision.

I would say yes. If I were in your shoes probably not because Im useless at saving and seeing the pixies that for away wouldn't appeal to me. However if you think you can save and you really really want to see the pixies and you aren't going to get another chance on this 'farewell' tour, then do it. Its probably only going to happen once (but who knows).
Comes down to:
Pixies/Money
Which would you prefer to have.
You could always wait till they played somewhere closer to China surely the flights would be cheaper.

Cheers for the advice mate.... in actual fact in my rollercoaster of indecision I am thinking of actually getting a ticket to the Brixton gig, and coming home for a week in June. I reckon that would be cheaper than LA as I could stay with mates and family, as opposed to staying in hotels.
Man I so want to see Pixies, this has been bugging the shit out of me for the past two weeks. Obviously money is important at the moment due to committments in August, but I reckon I should still have about 2 grand to play with after a trip to see the Pixies.... When the fuck am I going to make up my mind???

Your second choice, Brixton gig, is more reasonable. Not only would you save money, but it will probably be a better show. I'm not a fan of the festival. A small venue like Brixton is perfect. You'll be able to make you way to the front of the stage to actually see the band. Unlike a festival where you would be lucky enough to see them on a monitor. Don't forget the setlist. How many more songs will they play at Brixton apposed to Coachella.
Go to Brixton get to the front of the stage, left side near Joey, and get your ass rocked off.

I would go to London without a doubt. Though if I were you I would wait until more official news come in to make my final decision. |

Thumbs up to Brixton. Although funds will be drained, you can always earn more money, whereas as Malax said, this is probably only going to happen once.

whatever you do, if you spend the money to go somewhere, If it were me I'd try to go to a non-festival gig, so you have a better chance of hearing a longer set. So I'd avoid Coachella.

yeah, if it's the Pixies alone you're wanting to see, don't go to Coachella.....
and although the Brixton shows are the only headlining shows to be announced so far, i'd doubt you'll get any better than it.....

London does seem sensible, and you don't have to deal with the scorching desert. But I do recall you saying you've been meaning to visit the US so this would be a good time to do it. I guess you have to weigh how much you want to see other bands (at the expense of hearing fewer Pixies songs) versus cost/how much you want to come to the US.
Brixton would probably be my choice 'cause I'd be pleased to visit with old friends and family right after being married, it would cost less, and I'd get to see more of the Pixies. But you have to do the final weighing...

Damn..when you call me by name, it's hard not to respond.....bastard! =P
I'd say Dean summed it up for me pretty well. I don't know if i'd go to Coachella even if it were free...just not that appealing to me.

sorry to be the nay sayer here but I think it would be absurd for you to go. How can you justify spending that much money one one reunion show? To travel to another country just for that!? Am I alone in thinking that would be too great of an indulgence?

I agree realmeanmotorscutor. I'd wait for the European tour and go there. Cheaper and less time consuming, plus you don't have to deal with Kraftwerk, haha.

I agree too. A Pixies reunion would fun to see, but 40 minutes of music while be jostled by too many posers in heat with $6 bottles of water is not worth a trip half way around the world. And, it won't be their first show, so you can't feel cool for being at the first reunion show.
I'm thinking the drive from Northern California to Southern California (maybe 8 hours) is too much for me, but I'm lazy. |

I'm with Dave on Coachella. I probably wouldn't go if it was free either. I HATE festivals.

yeah, I would never go to a festival never mind one in another country. I think a smaller club would be more reasonable but seriously . . . they won't be so good as to make the trip reasonable.

Cheers for the advice guys..... Last night I made up my mind to avoid Coachella (I had the thoughts of a stripped down set as well, although I was also attracted by the line-up, but when it comes down to it I have seen The Cure, Radiohead, and Flamiing Lips before).
So my mate is going to try and get his hands on Brixton show tickets and I'll go back home for it, I reckon those Brixton tickets are going to be like gold dust though so I hope my mate manages to get his hands on a couple. If we cannot get Brixton tickets then I'll go to T in the Park I reckon..... there is no way I can miss this Pixies reunion, I felt gutted about missing the FB tour in the summer / winter (especially after I had gone home 2 weeks before to see Iron Maiden in Denmark, when I don't even really like the Maiden that much) so I am not going to miss this one.
Anyway thanks alot, it's helped me come to a decision.
