Today's random song of the day is Solid Gold{.
What do you think of it?
lyrics Never since I met you Did you let me in Even when I let you You wouldn''t call me friend Pedal to the metal Mister, it''s a sin Getting so down
I''d give you solid gold Just for your finger You get the medal For getting so down
I guess you didn''t see that sky When the clouds are turned to isles I was glad when you couldn''t hear me Nervous laughter when you shouted and cursed
I''m not saying I understand Lord knows who can understand Life can be an awful plan And yours it ain''t the worst
Here she comes now In my mirror Oh, I know how She is a terror Now I see her In her mirror Wearing a frown
I give you solid gold Just for your finger You get the medal For scariest frown
I guess you didn''t see that sky When the clouds are turned to isles I was glad when you couldn''t hear my Nervous laughter when you shouted and cursed
Forthly you''re suspect Thirdly you don''t get Secondly you''ve got no respect Finally you''re not the first

"Solid Gold" was the song that marked my life along 3 years or more. I couldn't stop listening to it.
It has force in the sound and, of course, in the lyrichs.
Most of all I feel deep inside when he says:
Forthly you''re suspect Thirdly you don''t get Secondly you''ve got no respect Finally you''re not the first
It's like the story of my life.
And have you wandered that when he sings:
"here she comes now in her mirror"
He is singing like Lou Reed and playing with the words of The Velvet Underground song? Great !!
just for your fingers |

Love this song. Love it loud. Love it when FB opens the show with it, cause SG has one of the awesomest intros. Yup. And I like his singin voice on it. Seems like a Ray Davies-type character voice. |

I've sung along but never really knew the lyrics, if you know what I'm saying... like I know the words as sounds but never really thought about them or what they mean together.
A good song has become better and I thank ye Oracle...

This is such a badass song, even better live. It's also classic Frank in that it takes something really mundane (driving a bad road w/a bunch of assholes) and elevates it to poetry.

seems like a song about road rage to me.
this is the album that frank introduced that new low-end scream of his. it took some getting used to for me.

Awesome song. We covered it with my band when I was in high school and it was real fun to play it.

I've always had a soft spot for good guitar, and this song has good guitar. Dig it a lot. |

Mere/Jettison, I'm just curious how the 'solid gold / just for your finger' fits into your interpretations. Perhaps I'm over-tired, perhaps it's the fact that it's colder here today than yesterday by some magic of physics (-54C for those curious), but I don't get it. Help the stupidest guy in the world out a bit, will 'ya!

My favourite of the FB&TC-album. One of Frank's greatest! It's... raw. :) |

pretty good song, IMO. great lead guitar riff. i am not crazy about his vocals in this one but they some how pit perfectly with the song/instruments. the entire album in great and solid gold does not dissapoint. |

I have loved this song "ever since I met" it.
The way his voice sounds and the music ARE right on as suggested.
I NEVER ever until now, tried to put the words togetheer either but to whoever suggested Road Rage...wow...that seems to be right on the button.....
another layer of the onion peeled back. I need to go listen to it. Now. |

I really wonder if this song is about road rage...all signs point to yes. I love this song. The guitar part is so much fun to play. It's such a loud and heavy song.

I'd give you Solid Gold...just for your finger....
So she's giving him the finger, flipping the bird, because she's pissed about some seeming transgression on the highway....and he turns it around by saying that I'd take that finger and put a ring on it...sort of the 'turn a frown up side down" school of dealing with it.
Ya know...just when I think I like his music....I love it. |

must have been writing at the same time.
Brilliant observation by the way, Creature, thank you for that.
Obviously it's open to any sort of interpretation anyone wants to give it. I happen to like that, Creature. It's cool when you finally find the latch and look inside to see all the gears. |

Yeah, that's a pretty interesting interpretation and not at all what I initially thought, but thanks to everyone here, I believe I have had what we scienticians call an "assisted epiphany".
I'm now listening to the brown album in honour of this thread.

Playing this song right now. This is the only SONG OF THE DAY that I had to put on immediately and mull over. Anyway, in conclusion, I love it! It's so rocking and it just raises the bar on an awesome album.
