I just bought "Gremlins" on DVD last night and watched if for the first time in ages.

That being said, I remembered there was a band called Mogwai. Did they get the name from those cute fuzzy creatures in the movie? And is the band worth checking out?

I have one Mogwai album. I was very disappointed with it... Well, I just went to get the name off of it, evidently I sold it with some other stuff I thought was crap ("Sigur ru" being another). It was reddish if I remeber correctly. Might want to stay away from that one at first. I have heared good stuff about them though. I don't know, maybe I bought the wrong album. Or maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance.
Modest Mouse. Now that's where it's at. Some of the best music I've ever heard. You can hear a lot of Black Francis influence in the vocals too.

EP+2 is a great album to get. First one I bought, loved it, and craved more. They're excellent.

I'm extremely fond of both Mogwai and Modest Mouse. I've managed to collect 3 Mogwai CDs; Rock Action being my favorite.

Rock Action? Which one is that Owen? I thought I had them all. I don't see that one. Is it new?
My favorite is Lonesome Crowded West.
What about Ugly Casanova (side project)? You have that?

I think, in fact, they got the name from The Jungle Book.

Rock Action is that one. You know. The one with the . . . like . . . stuff. Yeah, I like the Ugly Casanova deal -- they were great when I saw 'em live with the dual vocal action.

OK...my turn.
well Mogwai are my favourite band, so i think i can reply..
and yes, they did get their name from Gremlins.

and also yes, Mogwai are definitely a band worth checking out.
Thats if you like instrumental music, as they have no vocals, except for some vocoded vocals on their latest, and imho, best record happy songs for happy people.

Their early stuff was very loud - they were champions of the very quite followed by terrifically loud phenomenon in the post-rock world.
they have mellowed out a bit nowdays and expanded their repoiture quite alot, and are fucking brilliant.

They are phenomenal live - just waves and waves of glorious noise.

you can download some songs off their official site - but the majority are unreleased/live tracks, however, hunted by a freak, the first song, and one of the best off happy songs is available:
http://www.mogwai.co.uk/audio/7.mp3
so download it and have a listen.

and to make a frank connection, when i bought a copy of their first full length album, called Young Team, from 1997, it had a wee sticker on the front, with the quote from an NME review saying "i can just imagine the Pixies weeping into their shreaded careers!"

cook me some fucking eggs!

Yeah, that'd be MOWGLI, not MOGWAI. Also, I agree with Benji here, Happy Songs... is a fantastic record. In fact, I might have to just go and put it on now...

Does anyone remember the main character's name from The Jungle Book?

I thought we already went over the whole sense of humor, sarcasm detection thing.
