Has anyone seen this song live it rock's so hard. It clearly is now my favorite song the long slow intro then the speed of a fast a train then it all crashes together. The end is really sounds very Door's.

The end is very much more like Sonic Youth than the doors.

hm... jain. maybe also a reference to a Dylan song: "Queen Jane". they played it in the bowery ballroom after they were done with the show yesterday in new york.
it sure does rock. live and on the album.

It reminds me most of the end of Karen Koltrane off of "A Thousand Leaves." Although just in general it has a Sonic Youth vibe to it. If you're looking to get into SY, you can't go wrong getting their latest album, Murray Street.

Its obviously just a anagram of Jean, his wife!
There's a few refs to her "hidden" in other songs on other albums!

'Jane, the queen of love' was definitely a show highlite for me.
ps. The Dylan song is called, 'Queen Jane approximately'.

Oh yeah. I think that Jane Queen of Love is about the spiritual belief called Jain. Look at the web page via Frank's bio. It just gots ta be!

Buttercup! Bubbles! Let's go!

You must be right Bren, there are even a number of references to bumble bees on that site: (From JAINWORLD) The term used for begging in Jainism is madhukari-eating by the bumble bee. Just as a bee takes juice from different flowers without discrimination and without hurting them, similarly the Jain monk takes food from different households in small quantities and without discrimination between rich or poor household or the quality of food offered.
and also: There are in all five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing and therefore the mobile or many-sensed souls are classified accordingly into four classes, viz.,
chatur-indriya jivas, i.e., those souls which have first four senses of touch, taste, smell and sight, for example, bumble bee, etc., and
Bumble Bee love anyone? |

I've noticed lots of bands write songs with a "Jane" in them. Dylan had "Queen Jane Approximately", The Clash have "Janie Jones", The Velvet Underground have "Sweet Jane, and Guided by Voices have "Jane, of the Waking Universe". Coincidentally, "Jane" is sung very similiarly to "Jane" in Frank's song. |

Sorry, to clarify, "Jane" is sung similiarly by both Guided by Voices and Frank. just the "jane" part though, the rest of the chorus sound different. |

There was a great Austin, Texas "supergroup" a few years back called the Arc Angels that put out one album and then broke up. It was made up of Stevie Ray Vaughan's rhythm section, Charlie Sexton (who's since played with Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams among others) and another well-known Austin songwriter.
They had a song that I believe was called "The Legendary Jane", and the lyrics were written from the perspective of imagining that all these classic rock songs like "Queen Jane Approximately" and "Sweet Jane" were actually wriiten about the same exact woman. It was most interesting, and a good song as well.

It has something to do with the way that bees pollinate various plants indiscriminately, some kind of wider philosophical/spiritual implication that we should disseminate our love indiscriminately....check out that Jainworld link on Franks profile, that will explain it better than I can right now |

yep, both GBV and FB Jane-lines sound the same.
The songs are very different though.
I always mix the Queen of Love and Of The Waking Universe up for fun...
The songs still sound great

From the Jain site:
"Just as a bee takes juice from different flowers without discrimination and without hurting them, similarly the Jain monk takes food from different households in small quantities and without discrimination between rich or poor household or the quality of food offered."
I don't know about bumble bees, but honey bees actually are very discriminating. If they have been recruited to forage from a particular species of flower they won't forgage from other species even they are right next to each. But, who expects religions to rely on facts. |

or how 'bout this! sometimes vocalists sing certain vowel sounds with a little drawl or twang, (depending on their musical upbringing or location in the world). so maybe "Jane" is really "Jean"? but of course, Frank would never reveal that one to us!!!
