My "significant other" was/is a HUGE XTC fanatic...bootlegs and all.
I've pretty much gained all the knowledge of XTC there is to gain.
I like it alot. I don't listen all that much anymore but randomly when I hear their songs, they make me happy and think to myself....damn, they were good. |

i really enjoy about 5 XTC songs "life begins at the hop" "making plans for nigel" "mayor of simpleton" etc. the "hits" i guess. but i don't mind the rest - i just don't love them

Yeah, I'm not a fanatic as some are, but I love a lot of it. I had no idea they sounded like they did on the first couple of records. It's like a different band.

I have all their albums and they're all great except maybe "Mummer", "Nonesuch", and "Go2" which are merely good. Their B-Sides collection "Rag and Bone Buffet" is great as well.

Yeah, Mummer doesn't do much for me, and I have yet to hear Go2, but I do like Nonsuch quite a bit, and Im dying to hear the rest of White Noise. Whaddya think of Apple Venus and Wasp Star? I like em. I think if you're a fan of mid period Beatles, you can't go wrong.

I think they're both great albums, but they (and Nonesuch to a lesser degree) sound like "easy listening XTC" to me. The attitude is much more subdued than on Oranges and Lemons and earlier albums. I miss the obnoxiousness and aggression of their post-punk days. I'm also not a big fan of Colin Moulding's songs after Oranges and Lemons.
By the way, make sure you get The Dukes of Stratosphear anthology. The Dukes are basically XTC with different names and a more Syd Barret era Pink Floyd sound. It's really good and really fun.

The box set is nothing but rare non-LP songs, outtakes and what not.
