OK, I can't get the search to work, so I can't revive the last time I did this.
What should I buy? I can only afford one CD, but I can't decide between:
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I See A Darkness
British Sea Power - The Decline Of...
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane, Over The Sea

I'm open to suggestions (last time someone suggested Mogwai, I bought that and loved it), but if possible I'd like your choices out of the above three.

I certainly did get Secret Name, and of course its ace as well. Your recommendations are high on the list, Benji. By the way, are you named after the dog?

Benji. Duh...

There used to be a kids TV show with a dog called Benji. It was on before Gentle Ben.

Don't be so quick to sign up. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog keeps insisting that Benji the dog is gay (nothing wrong with that - just want you to know what you're volunteering). Still shaggy though. No super powers that I can recall, other than running around looking sappy.

I looked for a cult to join, then decided to just play "Sink". Hey! I sank the LaBrea Tar Pits!

Should get Bonnie Prince Billy.

I remember a dog named Benji, and a boy who owned a sort of a flying robot...

It was really great, I hope we're talking about the same.

Benji is so not gay. I'm not sure if it was the original Benji or For the Love of Benji (that makes a good exclamation when the shit hits the fan), but that little guy lands him one fine bitch, I'm hear to say. Of course, it could just be body doubles and trick photography and stuff like with Tom Cruise.

I don't get the critical orgasms over Neutral Milk Hotel. Maybe I just don't dig the folky stuff. British Sea Power seems interesting, though.

Not so shaggy - a smart, loveable mutt. Not sure if he's gay.....Bears remarkeable resemblance to "Shithead" from the great movie "The Jerk", with Steve Martin.

Here is where he is named:

(Navin [Steve Martin] is in bed, snoring. There is barking outside his room.
Navin wakes up and opens the door.)

Navin - Well what is it boy? Are you lost? Do you want to play?
(more barking) Is it trouble? Trouble? Is it a accident? A
drowning? A fire?

Shithead - (more barking) Yeah! Yeah!

Navin - Fire!! Oh no! Gosh! We've got to warn everybody! I've heard
about dogs like you! You're going to be famous! You're gonna get
your picture taken and they'll put it in the paper! Gosh, this is
exciting! You saved my life! Come on, lets warn everybody!

[Outside of the motel]

Navin - Arf! Arf! Arf! Fire! It's a fire! Everybody! Wake up! It's
a fire! This dog, he's saving everybody's life! He's
unbelievable! This is some dog! He's a lifesaver! That's what
I'll call him too! Ol' lifesaver! That's going to be your name.

(the fire department shows up and checks the place out)

Fireman - Folks, false alarm. There's no fire.

Guest - Hey mister? Don't call that dog lifesaver.

Navin - No?

Guest - Call him Shithead.

Navin - Good. Shithead.

[Down a dusty road, Navin is carrying Shithead]

The whole movie script: http://blake.prohosting.com/bamzone/jerksc.txt

Oh yeah.....I don't care much for Neutral Milk Hotel, don't know about British Sea Power, so I would go with Bonnie Prince Billy.

well I haven't heard the British Sea Power album but the other two are both excellent choices. So excellent in fact that I don't know that I can recommend one over the other. GAHHHHHHH, it's painful to choose!! AAAHHHHHHHHH! Ok, I'll just make a decision here but I don't like doing it. I'd say get Aeroplane right now but get I see a Darkness the minute you get enough money. Either one you get though will be a good choice.

British Sea Power is alright....It took me a while to get over the fact that it sounds like the Pixies featuring David Bowie on vocals, and produced by the members of Can......but once you get past that, it grows on ya

I suggest British Sea Power for a reason. One time, I was listening to a college radio station. They played a song by British Sea Power, and I really enjoyed it. I downloaded some of their songs, and I enjoyed them too.

What, like the prodigy video, he says displaying tremendous lack of cultural knowledge...

And I might just get a job, Benji, it seems like the logical thing to do.

OK, so I didn't get any of these. However, I did get given some vouchers a while back and I spent them today in a shop that was closing down. Bargains ahoy-hoy!
I got:
Shack: ...here's Tom With The Weather
REM: New Adventures In Hi-Fi
Nick Cave: Nocturama
Grandaddy: Under The Western Freeway
Twelve Monkeys on video

Any opinions?
I'm listening to Shack now, its quite nice when both speakers work!

That Grandaddy album is great. Not as good as Sophtware, but a bunch of solid pop songs.

12 Monkeys is one of the few movies that I'll watch more than once or twice. I like Gilliam's vision of the future.

I bought that one about the time it was released, but couldn't get into it at all.

(Odd - as it didn't seem that far from what he'd done with the Boatman's Call, which I love.)

-

My favorite Nick Cave albums are "From Her to Eternity" & "Your Funeral, My Trial"

They came out not too long after the Birthday Party had, um, ended.

To be honest, I only have the best of Nick Cave, but that is a stunning album. Persistent financial straits, unfortunately.
