I work at Best Buy, and the preferred music service that we sell is the Rhapsody service. We have it setup on our computers, and we're allowed to listen to it throughout the day. Nothing beats working with the Pixies or the Breeders or some 60s music playing in the background. Recently I was sitting at my computer, wishing I had access to the songs available through Rhapsody...sure, I could download em, but it was so much more convenient to just stream them.

So now, I've downloaded the 14 free trial and am giving it a shot. You can stream full songs and albums for $9.95 a month...there are a number of commercial free stations and such, you can make your own playlists, etc. etc. A very fair price for access to over 30,000 albums. The collection grows constantly. For example, when I first started working back in October, the only FB album available was TOTY. Recently I noticed FB added. Now FB&TC is available. It's great for me cause I mostly listen to my music in front of the computer, not so much on the go...it gives me the opportunity to preview an album guilt-free, then purchase it if I so desired (I would actually buy the album in the store).

Does anyone here subscribe to any of these services? How are you enjoying it (if at all?). Slashdot recently posted an article that reviews the number of services available. Check it out:

Good article. I looked at MusicMatch and iTunes a while ago but discovered that I couldn't choose the file quality level. Based on that, I think Emusic may be my best bet. I think compressed music sounds pretty bad at 128kbps, I don't care what the format might be....WMA, ACC, or MP3. Because of this, I will continue to buy CDs at the stores and rip them to my specifications. Daddy gotta have music that sounds good.

I did the iTunes thing when FB came out with the exclusive e.p. Since that came out I basically only download the "exclusive tracks" stuff that you cant get anywhere else, like the Bowie online single. I am pretty happy with it, but I still like getting musice the old way of walking into a store and buying something real with artwork and stuff. Just my opinion.

Problem with streaming is you can get in trouble with your ISP for bandwidth over-consumption..kind of ironic.
