I am going to see them on Monday but don't know much about them. Any fans out there?
To be honest, all the 'The' bands are starting to confuse me. I'm old, I guess. I think we should start a list b/c it's getting out of control!
Here are the ones I can think of right now: The Strokes The Vines The Hives The White Stripes
I know there are more... |

The Kills, The Rapture etc. The Thrills get a great big 'meh' from me. The songs are fine, they're just not overly exciting. But hey, Morrisey likes em.

which has put me right off now!
just try living in manchester for more than a month, flaming morrisey and his fans everywhere, they have morrisey discos, where lads turn up, feel sorry for themselves, wonder why they're all alone, go home, cry and ask when the next 'disco' is as they're really looking forward to it... only one thing worse... manics nights... :)

Eeugh, Manics nights. So thats the club if you want to go is it? Theres always the chance you might meet someone who really likes you. Knowing my luck, I'd go and stand on my own, then come home and cry, and want to die.

Well, I'm mostly just looking forward to going out. And I like Morrissey - whatever that's good for.
More "The" bands I thought of while cleaning - The Shins The Distillers The Ravonettes

i have their cd (i got it for free) and like it.. i don't think it's spectacular, but they're decent. i like how they have all these California-themed songs. the whole cd is full of them.. songs about Santa Cruz, San Diego, Hollywood, Big Sur (all places that i'm connected to)
i think the song are pretty well written and catchy but they're just (slightly) too soft for me or something.. but i still dig it. you can never go wrong with pedal steel guitar. |

Well, I've heard Big Sur. It's very catchy and well-written. But The Thrills don't really have a distinctive sound or style or anything that makes them truly original, from what I can tell. (have we forgotten The Who?) |

Which makes it all the more incongruous when you find out they're from Dublin.
How about The Jet?

Thanks for bringing up The Thrills. I heard them mentioned before on NPR and I heard a song clip and really enjoyed it. I knew their name was "The T...." something, now I know. Thanks!

the beatles, the rolling stones... i don't get why everyone makes such a big deal of "the" bands; it's nothing new and it's never really stopped since it started |

I think it's because there seem to be an influx of NEW "The" bands right now and so many of the names seem similar. I mean The Thrills, The Vines, The Hives, The Shins... they all seem kind of weirdly related and I can barely tell any of them apart. As my friend Heather says "oh, it must be one of those White Strokes".

Well, I actually didn't go sadly. Long story - but I am going to get their CD and check them out.
