Anyone see Cold Mountain? I saw it last weekend. At first I wasn't sure but as soon as other people started making their appearance, ie Rene Zellweger and Philip Seymour Hoffman and Giovani Ribisi etc the movie greatly picked up and by the end, I was invested in the characters a lot more.
Anyone care to add thoughts about the movie (or book which I have not read.)
I saw it too and I have mixed feelings. I felt like I knew it was going to be sad and dramatic but I didn't know how violent it was going to be - which was probably dumb on my part. I felt like anytime I got attached to anyone, they were killed off.
I don't know. I never relaxed AT ALL throughout the movie, it was so upsetting and tense - which I guess would have been fine if I had been prepared or something...
All that said, the performances were all pretty good. Jude Law was very moving (and pretty!) and I love love LOOOVE Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He was a crack up. It was a good movie, just very different and more emotional then I had thought it was going to be, which isn't really a bad thing.
I understand what you mean about people getting killed off. It WAS startling but at the same time, I think it's part of what saved me from becoming too sleepy with the movie. You know? Remember the girl in the boat? Wow, I thought I'd have a heart attack.
It was pretty violent but I'd say overall a good story with fascinating characters.
