I love seeing him in New Haven. but.. the Tune Inn is dead. Long live the Tune Inn! Toad's was great too though, small and good sound. but not the same gritty scene, everyone sweating and jumping, like Tune Inn was a few years ago. but i'm nostalgic.
OK, he played 31 songs. (!) I was really pumped to hear 85 weeks, and the whole run from Crackity Jones to Freedom Rock, especially Rock n Roll, totally rocked. did i say rock? rock.
(a few i didnt know i just wrote some key lyric that someone should recognize. Jay, you out there?)
[ All The Tired Horses intro thing ] 1. All my Ghosts 2. Whiskey In Your Shoes 3. Gouge Away 4. Manitoba 5. Nadine 6. How you went so far 7. ["first trime in my life i don't care", something about "misfortune in my stockings"] 8. Crackity Jones 9. ["cough cough cough"] 10. I Want Rock n Roll 11. Freedom Rock 12. Are you headed my way? 13. Cactus 14. Black Letter Day 15. Bullet 16. California Bound 17. The Farewell Bend 19. Monkey Gone to Heaven (frank sings all pretty like + pedal steel) 20. Jane The Queen of Love 21. Heloise 22. Chip Away Boy 23. 85 Weeks 24. ["I gambled, then she flew"] 25. Out of State 26. Velvety [i think] 27. Dog in the Sand --- 28. Robert Sweet Onion 29. Solid Gold 30. Men in Black (?) 31. The Black Rider

Hey Adam, it's me, J.
I think that no. 7 is a new song that people have been calling "Horrible Day".
No idea on no. 9, cough?
No. 24?
God damn my memory...

Cough cough=definitely thalassocry, he's been playing that right after Crackity, along with Rock in Roll, it's their back to back to back furious rockin' triad. |

Here's my review:
Saddle up the horses it’s time to ride FB & the C’s Toad’s Place 10-Nov-02
We took the train up from NYC and we missed all the openers. Sorry. Frank and the Catholics came out well dressed, well except for Rich who just looked weird. The crowd was pretty quiet, but Frank didn’t seem to mind. He started out pretty rocking and then slowed things down for the second half, switching to the acoustic. Then switching back to the electric for some of the encore. I love when he plays the acoustic. He gets it to sound so nice and full, just like his voice. I will say his voice was as impressive as ever. In the spirit of a modern day Dylan, cactus had quite a vocal change up to it. Jane, the queen of love was a highlight for me. The pause before the chorus is perfection. The new songs were cool. Manitoba has a nice piano sound to it. Nadine was alright. The third one, which I believe people are calling Horrible Day was so ‘country’ I thought for sure it was a cover. Dog in the sand was a perfect closer for the set. That song really moves me. I went home exhausted. It was great.

thanks all for filling in the gaps. yes: 9 = Thalassocracy 24 = Valentine and Garuda. (is Garuda a place? In India?)
hey, J. you live in NY too? see you at the show Tuesday? gonna post those pix? Jane queen of love is one of my favorites on the album, such a great shout-along-and-weep song. except i think the line "you're the only one, yeah that's what you are" is dumb. the crowd *was* pretty quiet, but seeing him in NY is worse - it's packed, but everyone is too jaded and cool to show any kind of enthusiasm. that's why i usually like seeing him in smaller cities better.
on another note, does anyone know what happened in 1826? sounds like some kind of Indian (native american) war or something. i was thinking trail of tears at first, but that was in the late 1830's. i think i'll post a separate thread.
