Recently, I heard a cover of Down to the Well on the local college radio station. It sounded live, and the lead singer hadn't quite mastered the "Black Francis Scream", it sounded more like a high-pitched "oooh". It was an incredible cover, capturing the Pixies-esque energy.
Anyways, I haven't been able to find it anywhere on the net, or on any album. Does anyone have any idea who this band might be?

Nope.

But I'm sure you could call up the DJ's who run that college radio station, though, and ask them. It shouldn't be too hard: the college radio station DJ's here in Knoxville don't ever do anything but sit around and wait for people to call in requests.

Are you sure it's not one of the early versions of Down to the Well? Down to the Well was the first Pixies song ever to get played on the radio, and there are a bunch of different versions of it...the early ones had more of a "oooooh!" than an outright scream for the chorus.

It may've been the Pixies, I only caught the end, but it definitely wasn't the Bossanova version.
Is there any alternate version of Down to the Well on a bootleg, cover album, on the net, etc that anyone knows of?

An alternate version is readily available on Pixies at the BBC.
