folks, really, this thread is depressing.
idolizing anyone is stupid, people are people. everyone gets in bad moods, and everyone wants to be left alone now and then.
i'm not really surprised at all that there are obsessive people on this board, obviously any fan board is going to attract all the fans, them included. but really guys, senor blackus is just a regulary pudgey white dude like me or, probably, you. playing guitar and writing songs is what he does, and what he's good at. giving him respect is one thing, going all fruit-loopy is another.
as william shatner once said, 'get a life!'
:) cheer up. |

Have you guys ever met any other idols? I've met and hung out with The Posies on several occasions and they've always been very gracious and cool. I know they aren't as legendary as Frank, but they certainly have fans who are just as rabid (myself included.) I know Frank is Frank and he seems to want to be left alone, but don't pretend like everyone in his position has that attitude. In my experience they don't. It's hard to like someone so much and not be able to let them know how important they are to you. It must also be hard for him to be so important to so many people that he can't possibly take the responsibility to give them all acknowledgment. Maybe you could ingratiate yourselves to him by offering to help him carry his amp? Maybe not . . .
I don't think you should feel stupid for idolizing anyone. Some people AREN't just people. I'm not saying he shouldn't be treated like a normal person, but he isn't a normal person. He's one of a select few who have that magic to be able connect with millions of people. Just remember that Frank might feel around Bowie the same way you feel around him. |

Hey Galoof. I guess I'm the guy you call "clean-cut." I met John, the curly haired kid, there though. He took a couple of pics of my friend on stage too. I think you have us confused; The girl on stage was my friend but I'm the short brown haired guy. Anyhoo eebee, I'm glad someone else noticed the poor sound quality. Adios. |

Hey, the Posies are even cool with more "non fans" like me. I have a couple of girlfriends who are "their biggest fans." They came to the little hamlet of Provo, Utah and, at a record store performance, recognized my friends from myriad other shows, and we all got passes for that night's big show. Afterwards they actually invited us to their hotel and we hung out at their little after party with them and the guys from Permanent Green Light. I certainly can say nothing bad about them as friendly fellas.
I think some guys are better suited personality-wise for dealing with frothing-at-the-mouth fans. I always just consider what it would be like to have random people approach me at varying levels of good (or bad) humor, expecting me to "put [my] party face on." Sometimes I might whimsically be their best buddy for the moment or act kinda giddy, but more often I think I'd have to mask my being seriously annoyed, or at wit's end, just tell 'em to take a walk.
