I've just got in and checked out what made Christmas Number One here on the UK Top 40.
And the winner is...
Gary Jules: 'Mad World'
This is amazing! Has the world gone completely sane?! Darkness at no.2 with 'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)' Bo Selecta above the Pop Idol Lennon cover.
Proper ChrimBo, everyone!

This one is shaping up to be pretty big stateside - heard it on the radio several times since this was posted...must be listened to all the way through to achieve enlightenment. Lord.

It also happens to be my favorite. He sings it with such feeling, and I always end up crying, and my stomach hurts.
Fair warning - don't listen to this while drinking your seasonal egg nog or hot chocolate. It won't be pretty.

I looked for a cult to join, then decided to just play "Sink". Hey! I sank the LaBrea Tar Pits! |

I fell in love with the Mad World cover after I say Donnie Darko and I remember sitting in the dark with a bunch of my drunk friends and making them sit and listen to it about 10 times in a row, until the GOT it.
And now, your moment of zen... |

my girlfriend messaged me to let me know, fantastic indeed! loved it also since seeing donnie darko (on the opening night no less at the local independent cinema), downloaded it soon after, bit odd with it now being officially released and making no.1 no less, as its been around for ages!
~~~ I'm flat out, you're so beautiful to look at when you cry. Freeze, don't move, you've been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation of the sequal to your life. Shady Lane, everybody wants one, Shady Lane, everybody needs one. |
That's pretty cool. Is it the exact same version and everything? I've never even heard of that artist before.
It made a perfect haunting ending to that film even though it was used with an ironic classic '80s slow-mo video montage moment. There was great music throughout, too. Especially when it was (Sometimes I doubt your commitment to) Sparkle Motion time!
I don't get it at all. Probably because it reminds me of Tears For Fears, who I couldn't stand. Much prefer The Darkness's Christmas tune, a good slice of old-fashioned festive cheese - I mean what kind of Xmas party are you going to play "Mad World" at??? |
