i just caught the show in montreal two days ago. i have to say it was the best show i've seen thus far. frank was really reading the crowd well that night. he played a new version of "monkey gone to heaven" that consisted of just him on the mic and dave and rich on two opposing pedal steel guitars.....needless to say that it was beautiful. also a very explosive version of 666 was played. the whole show was fantastic......but most remarkable was the end where the band played the black rider, the place felt like it was going to fall apart.......very overwhelming......so anyways, if you are able to catch them on this tour.....expect to see them at their best!
I saw hime three times in Toronto last week. All the shows were quite good. Unfourtunately his Halloween show was cut short due to his television appearance on CBC. He is playing a lot of the New Albums and Quite a bit off Pistolero. The band appears more lively that the times I have seen him in the past...look to be having a great deal fun this go around.
Montreal was absolutely his best show that I have seen. Not this past week....but the only Canadian date he played prior to the release of DITS. He played Montreal and the show absolutely rocked. The crowd was lively and the band were appreciative. He played 'All The Tired Horses' prior to entering the stage. He played everything under the sun. If it were up to me, I would catch every show he plays in Montreal. I think he feels that old European feel in the city. Sorry I missed it this time around....I can only imagine.
I have seen him a few times now and the best show I have seen was in Hamilton in Jan 2001, when he had a release party for DITS. Sonic Unyon, his Canadian Distributer, is located in the town and he put on the show of shows. Played in a Venue which held 175 people...Frank and the band played on a tiny stage which was about a foot off the ground so essentially he was just a touch above the crowd. Really Really good I think they played for about 3 hours and did something like 2,3 encoures, It was a legendary performance. During the show he also played "Where is my Mind" (saw some sort of list of the Pixies tunes he has done...I am not sure this is listed and someone should add this if possible...I am new to this chat stuff) which was very surprising.
anyone have frank's email address? i was pretty excited to see him play "Manitoba" on CBC, since i'm from winnipeg. want to invite frank to the peg. you never know. lots of frank fans here. i took a pilgrimage to see him play in minneapolis and chicago. amazing shows.
