Two things about the Grammys. 1. Theres an award for album of the year AND an award for record of the year. Huh? 2. You could combine the talent of all the nominees and still not equal the amount of talent FB flushes down the toilet.

Hi,
I believe Record of the Year is for a single.
An Album is a collection of Records. |

indeed, such is the way of 'awards' - based more on popularity a lot of the time, rather than actual talent, especially some... and even if it is based on talent, you have to be popular to even be in with a chance...
there are few things in life i hate more than award shows... nme is possible one... so as you can imagine, the nme awards is quite near the top of my hate list.

I think Awards shows are only to garner more publicity and to increase sales anyway.
Sometimes awards are actually given to things that rightfully deserve said award but the occurences are few , far between and rare.
Notice the proliferation of so called "Awards Shows" lately anyway?
If they water the market down enough, it means nothing really. |

Award shows are stupid.
To paraphrase David Letterman: Music is an exhibition, not a competition. |

I remember when the Grammy's actually used to mean something. Pual Simon's "Graceland" won album of the year (1986, I beleive). In recent years, who has won this award that has been deserving? I can't think of anyone. I was watching Canada's own "E Talk Daily" yesterday, and they were all excited about Canada's chances at the Grammy's. Nickleback! Avril! Seriously, these artists are generally reviled by critics. Sure they sell well, but winning a Grammy? Legally Blonde and it's sequel were extremely popular and surely made 100 million plus. But they don't get Oscar nominations. Not that the Academy Awards are perfect, but come on, NICKLEBACK? I would be insulted if I were given a Grammy nomination in that crowd. (Of course, having no chance at ever garnerning such acclaim, that's easy for me to say). |

Last night on Spike TV they had the 1st (and last hopefully) VGA's, (video game awards) hosted by david spade. Okay, I love video games, but this was the most pathetic broadcast I've ever flipped through. Makes me look forward to flipping past the Grammies. |

Should that not be called 'Single of the year' then? I suppose they already have one for that.

Blur's "Think Tank" - album of the year, imo. |
