Sorry if this happens to be a hackneyed topic, but I wanted to see if it is just pilot error or if this is a known problem. I always either get a timeout error, a db error, or "no matches found" (even with a very specific search and a small timeframe).

I used to be able to get results with a narrow date range, but lately I haven't had any success at all.

The SQL (database) is over 300MB now...sickeningly huge..

There's a 45 second default time-out programmed into it..i can try upping that, but if it's say 120 seconds, and it's still timing out frequently, then i'll have to set it back (since it's wasting so much more of the server's time and CPU..)

I'll also archive all the forums in the near future, that should ease things up..

Ok. Thank you, Dave. :) It's a little weird that "no results" are turning up for narrow keyword and timeframe search parameters.

Wow! Is that SQL db onsite, or are you having to pay for that storage?

Hey Dave is this something a little money can solve? I’ve been wanting to pay to change my status from "Dog in the Sand" to "Master of Differentiation" or something. Maybe I can do something for the site/cause. What does anybody that's anybody think?

I was hinting at that very self-same thing TOTI....he still hasn't answered my question though. Is the server yours or is the db hosted on someone else's server, offsite? And do you need some money? hint hint nudge nudge <wink wink> heheh :)

hehe - for you Toti, it's yours.

Hold those thoughts guys - i've got a little something in the works...

The server is run by a very generous friend, and the db is on there.. I dunno if there's any reasonable upgrades we can do to it now.. It's something like a Pentium Pro..ancient!

FYI: Some searching of the forum can be done at Google. Just include the following in your search to limit the results to this forum:

it seems like sql should be able to handle the search, how exactly do you have it searching?

I searched for "song of the day" and it returned "Do You Feel Bad About It" from 12/4/03, so it's probably about a week behind. Try it y'self:

I'm pretty sure i used the updated search page from here:

http://www.snitzbitz.com/mods/details.asp?Version=All&mid=65

Plus added the line:

server.timeout=240

But the default is 45 seconds (if memory serves), so it's weird that it craps out at 35 seconds....

Hey Dave, I dunno, but I think I'm starting to lose it ;), but I can't ever get a result from the search function. It's always with the:

"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e31'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired

/search.asp, line 547"

Why does it hate me so?
