Great night at Le Nouveau Club Soda, a relatively new good size venue in town. The crowd was varied, probably about 23-24+ average with at least 30% female and ranging from real straight to punk-rock guys and retro 60's fashion victims.
The band and its eponymous frontman seemed quite in shape and happy to be there but Frank did not speak too much to the crowd between songs (actually, I don't think he did at all). Rich Gilbert was kinda funny all the way.
Cactus was the opener and many more Pixies songs followed : Crackity Jones, Gouge Away, a quasi a capella Monkey Gone to Heaven (music was really secondary), Wave of Mutilation, Nimrod's Son.
All the FBatC CD's were sampled with the exception of the original Frank Black one (no Los Angeles), in no particular order:
Thalassocracy (encore) Sir Rockaby Freedom Rock Robert Onion Bullet (best song of the night) The Swimmer Hermaphroditos Black Rider (encore) Black Letter Day Jane the Queen of Love Heloise Whiskey in your Shoes Men in Black Western Star All my Ghosts (sound was really bad...) Steak & Saber Six Sixty Six (almost a "spoken word" version, weird) Manitoba (funny) Nadine?
I must forget a couple.
So this was a 2 hours show including the encore. I did enjoy it and so did the crowd (I think) but I can't say the there was any real cathartic moment similar to previous experiences I remember from the Pistolero and the FBatC tours...
Sound in general was so-so if not bad.
Benoit, nonetheless a happy and loyal fan. |

salut benoit, i was at the montreal show as well. i agree the sound was so-so if not bad. as i posted in my review, i could barely here frank singing. i also thought he was not in the best of moods, smiling only once during the show (not counting the thank you at the end). overall, though, i still had a great time. thanks for posting the review and the song list! |

That's right, he seemed somewhat tired. |
