Well we all know there are topics out there discussing your favorite pixies songs, But how about the ones you would have rather not heard. Everyone knows The Pixies are by far one of the best bands in rock history but how about some of there darker moments List them in this thread, Also be sure to say why they are your least favorite songs. I would have to say my least favorite song is "Velouria" in bossonova although when Frank Black plays it acoustically or the band plays it live it sounds absoloutly perfect. The reason is because I really don't like how it just sounds so plastic, Like it came out of a factory from the begining it has a bunch of gay sound FXs added or whatever. Really ruins the peice of art that Velouria really is.

that's a tough one...probably "Into the White", mainly because of how repetitive it is

Yes, Very good point. I really liked into the white but since you pointed it out I just thought about the fact that it really isnt one of Mr. Thompshons better songs, Really its awsome concept with space and all but then again it really dosent have a story to it. But it also makes you think about space and what lays beyond, But alot of Pixies songs that Kim sings in are pretty good. I would have to say that into the white isnt half bad compared to alot of songs on Trompe Le Monde but no one can speak a word of evil against Come On Pilgrim and Surfa Rosa, They are by far the best pixie's albums in my opinon.

Silver always stops doolittle dead in its tracks (get it?) and meshes oddly with gouge away. The song Trompe le Monde is kind of low on my list. Same with distance = rate X time

I want to be a singer like Lou Reed

Yeah really good point by both you and stitch, I noticed that you get worked up to hear "Gouge Away" witch is one of the best songs on "Doolittle" and you end up hearing "Silver", Its a very good point. Its good to hear once in a while but it really dosent fit in.

it wouldn't be such a train wreck if it were someplace else on the album I think....maybe dead last, but possibly even someplace sooner on the album

Ahh i love silver, got a very haunting kinda feel to it,i dont think it would have much difference if it was somewhere else on the album anyway, but i have to say baileys walk is my outright least favourite at the moment

I have to disagree about silver's placement, shakey. it bring the pace and energy way down, right between two pretty hard rocking songs

I used to not like Silver but it grew on me...
otherwise Stormy Weather is about the only Pixies song I don't care for...but I can tolerate it...

I love Stormy Weather and Silver too. My least favorite song would be Blown Away. Im' not a big fan of There Goes My Gun either. It doesn't mean anything anyway, I like them all.

Yeah, Alot of bossonova wasnt really that great, Like alot of their songs sound so so good if they werent played so diffrently on bossonova, Like "Velouria" and "Down To The Well". I would have to say that "Stormy Weather" is also a very weak song for the fact that Mr. Thompson really stands out with his superior song writing and the fact that it usualy tells some sort of story or introduces some characters. But alot of the songs on Bossonova & Trompe Le Monde and some on Doolittle really bring down the excellent albums that they could have been. Also the placment of some of the songs on the albums could be improved on to make them a bit more listener friendly

apparently the order of the songs on bosssanova was one big fuckup.
charles and co wanted it ordered totally differently, but those higher up scuttled those plans...
i think thats how it goes.
i remember reading something about it many moons ago.

Blown Away's a nice song. The song i dont like is All Over the World. I mean they were trying to repeat a Number 13 Baby style instrumental, but it just ends up boring. And Crackity Jones rules!

Eiffel, the (not really) French Pixies page has alot of that kind of info. Unfortunately I haven't been there in a while, and so I can't remember the address of the top of my head. Anyone know it who could post a link?

bossanova is excellent. My personal view. And all over the world is brilliant. I never got into "rock-a-my-soul", it's too out there yet boring for me.

copy and pasted from alec eiffel

"It was Joey who thought up the name The Pixies, although he apparently didn't even know what the word meant at that time. "With English not his first language," Charles explained, "Joey has a fascination for new words. 'Oh I like that word,' he says, and looks it up and sees what it means. Believe it or not, he wanted to call the band Pixies In Panoply, but we shortened it a little."

Pixies in Panoply = Mischievous little elves wearing full suits of armour.

As for favourite song, really hard because I don't dislike any.
Ummm, maybe Brick Is Red gets my vote, although I still like that.

Mmmmm,i dunno ive never really rated hey as much as i do a lot of their other songs, but i guess silver could be seen to kill the pace a bit,i like the fact that silver totally doesn't prepare you for gouge away,it just changes completely
