I havent gotten the new release, but, I too have felt the pain of addiction from CivIII.
Give me a review of the latest update por favor. Is it any good? I have never played online, only vs computer. How in the world does it work online? Its such an investment in time to play a game it would seem hard to organize online. |

They had something like 15 new tribes, new terrain types, and scenarios. All kinds of additions really it's great. Online works out fine if a bit laggy but you can save your game and then pick it back up later so that solves any time investment problems. If you don't have the Play the World expansion it comes bundled with Conquests and I picked the thing up at Best Buy for $20 so you can't beat all the additions that are in this for that price you should check it out.

I will. I had PTW, but, I lost all of my software, PC etc. in a fire and will need to restock. So I will get that bundled pack eventually. I actually miss the game. It is such a mind-bender. I would play it for a few hours and then try to go to bed and it just wont get out of your brain. |

I got Conquer the World for Christmas last year but don't own the original game (though I did play it excessively, if you take my meaning). Someday, perhaps... it's just that right now I know that I will be sucked into that time warp. When I was young there were days I didn't even sleep playing the original (and other games, though usually also we had company over).

I spent away too much time on Civ and Civ II, but I haven't bothered with Civ III. I think this is because I got Alpha Centauri and never liked it (too much work and too ugly), and even when I played Civ it felt more like an addiction than a pleasure. You can just keep going on those games with another turn and another turn and each turns gets longer and longer. Next thing you know it's 4am.
Now when I play (rarely for the past 6 months) it's games with more of a set time scale. For Christmas I'm debating between Age of Mythology (I loved Age of Empires II, but worry that the new won't be different enough), Europa Universalis II, Hearts of Iron, or Warcraft III. Any suggestions? |

Hoo... that is a tough debate. Age of Myth and WC3 have both met with rave reviews... Not so sure on the other two.
I just finished Max Payne 2 and now I have yet another thing for a fictional character. That Mona Sax, hoo! :) Seriously, though, great game though short. Both Max Paynes were awesome.

I had Age of Myth but didnt find it as addictive as CivIII. Civ III was really my entre into modern Civ games and I was hooked immediately. AoM is good on its own merits, but, I prefer CivIII.

fantastic games though, can't wait until the day that i can get conquests and not risk ruining my life!

I think I prefer CivIII but I would definately recommend Age of Mythology, I had it last year and enjoyed it a lot, it was one of the few games the ex would actually play too. I'm interested in playing the new Age of Mythology expansion, but I think I'll stick to conquests for awhile. Hopefully some of you guys pick it up so we can all play multiplayer.
