and to add fuel to the fire....an update from the coachella romours (taken from www.greenplastic.com)
UPDATE AGAIN: Page 74 of URB states that Thom is "happy to be on the [Coachella] bill, but is visibly affected when informed of the Pixies reunion plans to play before them." Thom then goes on to say, "No! That's just not right! The Pixies opening for us is like the Beatles opening for us. I won't allow it. There's no way we can follow the Pixies!" |

that rumour makes it sound like it was all kim's idea to reform and stuff! i find that hard to believe... but apart from that, it's certainly seeming more plausable, if that's how you spell it...

I actually don't find it that hard to believe that Kim would be the impetus...
From rumours, which is all we have anyway, she was an integral part of the conflict that eventually tore the band apart along with Frank. So a reunion would hinge on both of these people alone and moreso than anyone else.
Kim always struck me as the one who was a bit more interested in making it big/popularity than Frank. I don't know the woman personally, and this isn't really a fair assessment, I'm only basing this on observations from interviews and her own decisions with her career.
So it's possible that Kim, if these rumours are even true, could be the one responsible for starting the return...

I was against them reforming for years, but now I think it would be kinda cool. What wouldn't be cool is if they finally decided to do it, only to play a bunch of shitty festivals as a little curiosity for the indie kids! If they do it, they damn well better be headlining their own gigs.

Didn't Frank Black "invent" indie, as per one of his more amusing interviews...if I recall correctly? I don't think there's anything wrong with indie music, or "indie kids" liking his, OR the Pixies, music...stop being selfish. As far as festivals go, the Pixies played festivals when they were together, what's the difference now? The Breeders owe alot to Lollapalooza too... |

While Frank Black may have invented "indie," the kids and generations have done to indie what Perry Ellis did to grunge...packaged it up and mass marketed it to the malls of America.
