I had no trouble coming up with a band for this (I plug them every chance I get) but the track was difficult. In the end I chose one of their uh...slower tracks and one of the 3 standout singles from their second album. Most certainly not my favourite but one of their more commercially viable tracks I guess.

Best Production yet. I like the last minute (pretty creative) and the "alanisacowboykiller" into 32nd (fast) notes parts - kind of like what Radiohead does. Some of the words of the story are ok.

Before listening to this, I know its gonna sound like the Pixies, all their songs do. This is a good thing.

Some of the tracks off mclusky do dallas are alot more agressive and, I'd use the word heavy but I guess its more noise than the pixies. This is most certainly a good thing. I don't hear 100% pixies influence just enough to make me love this band more than any other. Cept perhaps Frank.

Also, they're Welsh. Which you'd think would be a bad thing, given their illustrious company...
Sounds like the Pixies, innit boyo!

Actually, having listened to it now, it sounds less like the Pixies than some of their other tracks.
The other one I know is To Hell With Good Intentions ("we take more drugs than a touring funk band").
Is ...Do Dallas the best starting point, I've been contemplating McClusky for a while?

Well there is the first album but your better off with the second its just an all round better album. Contemplate no more, you'll probably wish you hadn't once you buy the album.

Aw man! I wanted to join this game so that I could do some Mclusky! I've been listening to Mclusky Do Dallas on a loop all week. (I got it for my husband for xmas but already broke down and gave it to him b/c I couldn't wait to hear it.) I suppose it's inevitable that my child is going to catch me cranking "Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues" but until then I'll take my chances.

BTW, this is nowhere near my favorite track on here. It's ok, but I much prefer the shorter, faster ones.

Whoa. Heavy Pixies influence indeed.
I'd heard of McLusky numerous times but still hadn't heard them yet. Is it only me or does the beginning clearly refer to "Levitate Me"?

I have a problem with the 'lazy vocals' - all those singers who sound like barely pubescent teens who can't give a fuck annoy me - but I kind of like the ending when he gets a bit loopy.

To me it still sounds like run-of-the-mill, Pixies-influenced indie stuff. But to be honest, I've only listened to it once (I'm at work).

I would've forgotten all about this band...good tune. As others have stated, I feel they have better songs. I do like the words to this one, pretty entertaining. Somehow I never thought about them in terms of Pixies influence, but after seeing all of you say that it's pretty hard to miss. Listening to other songs, yeah - they're definitely Pixies fans. I've never been mad about the bass player's style, but all in all this is a good band. You can believe it because I said so.

Nothing is ever something.

steady, boyo, steady. I might not be on the list but I am doing some virtual stalking on this thread. Song's pretty good and does improve in the latter stages. Of the Welsh lot I've always liked Gorky's Zygotic Mynci.

Hey dangit! I missed out putting my 2 cents in here....

oops! Sorry, I really didn't care for it - Superchunk meets Yo La Tengo, but the singing is a little annoying. Guess I shoulda just left it alone....

Yeah, but then you have to balance that out with Manic Street Preachers, Feeder, Stereophonics, Catatonia... bleurgh.

I also forgot Super Furry Animals, but I like them so maybe it would have spoilt the flow a bit.

it does sound kind of Pavement-esque (i don't completely see the Pixies thing on this song).. it's pretty tight. who's to say how it would hold up later, but after 3 listens i'm liking it. i think maybe they could have dropped the 3rd verse and gone straight into the crazy ending part. but that's just me pretending to be a producer.

i'm curious to hear their other stuff.

(trying to catch up since Malax was gracious enough to let me join)
