                      | I guess we can rule out SMYT being recognized, no matter how unjust we know it is.
What do you think is THE album of 2003?

I have to go with Elephant by the White Stripes. Its a great album.

                      | It is.
It's one of those albums that I didn't think about till I heard it and every song was just right on the money.

Kinda like the way each song on SMYT is.

 SMYT really has my vote.

                      | I still haven't bought Show Me Your Tears. I've bought all of my Frank Black solo stuff in the last two years, so that's what, 9 albums or something? So I'm still absorbing those. I'll get around to buying it sometime. There's just so much music out there and I've devoted a considerable amount of time and money to Frank Black, so I'm listening to other music at the moment.
As far as albums of 2003 that rock, I really like Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks "Pig Lib," Ween's "quebec," and the new Dirtbombs record (which I like a lot yet can't remember the title of). All 3 of these are already classic records for me, but I'm sure the general public has different ideas.

                      | Album of the year will almost definitely go to the White Stripes. I don't care for them much, but I suppose that as far as records that have had considerable exposure this year, it's probably one of the better ones out there. I guess. I don't know, just not my cup of tea. They're okay. But I'd say I like the Pet Shop Boys more than I like them. |

                      | I nominate for the album of the year:
Faith No More - Album of the Year.
Tied with Frank Black (pre-Catholics) - Teenager of the Year.

                      | I still think Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief" is better than "Elephant", though it is not as good as I expected (expectations being incredibly high), even though I really like both. I don't know if it would be the album of the year. I can't think on those terms. My brain goes in more of a circle. ;) |

                      | My friend said Ima Robot is really good. I've only heard half of one of their songs but the half I heard sounded pretty good. If it's in Dave's top 7 that says something I suppose.
I bought Hail to the Thief but haven't found myself listening to it that much. I have enjoyed what I've heard. Maybe I just haven't been in a Radiohead mood.

I really love Tricky - Vulnerable
I say it all the time, but I can't put this cd down. Everyday like 4 times a day.

South - with the tides is really good too
I like it more than radiohead because it isn't nearly as annoying. I like hail to the cheif, but certain parts of it drive me insane, for example the cd skipping sound... fuck that.

                      | Oh, the award for "best album of the year that I thought would be disappointing" goes to Andrew W.K. "The Wolf"
No I haven't heard the New Pornographers but I'll make sure to download some songs and check them out.

                      | Peering through my stacks, I see very little new stuff from this year, but the best of it looks to be:
 Spearhead - Everyone Deserves Music
Seven people have either gone and bought it or begged a copy after hearing it in my car. I don't think it's the finest Spearhead's done, but still very solid.

Mike Watt hasn't recorded his new one yet, but it's getting performed this year, and what I heard has me excited - maybe it can be "Album of Next Year."

Other than that...the new Joe Strummer's really good, I think Calexico put one out earlier too. Only listened a couple times but I think I remember digging it, they're a good band. Of course I'll also throw in the requisite endorsement for the Frank Black one - actually, even more people have been begging that one off me than the Spearhead. In the contest to see how many units I can get sold this year I've got three people who've bought Spearhead and three who've bought the new Frank, so it's a tight race.

 Nothing is ever something.

                      | The Polyphonic Spree album is quite good, though I'm not certain I've ever listened to all of the last track. I mean, it's 30 minutes, it makes Pink Floyd's "Echoes" seem short |
