Cheeseman1000 Jediroller Malax Obfuscatebywill Apl4eris Cult Of Frank Wolfmanmikelonely Littleblackfrancis Crispy water Realmeanmotorscuter Danishboy (if he wants)
This will stay up for probably just over two days. Cheeseman1000 choose just one song by one band (specify a download location if you can/want). Don't mention any other songs by the band if/until someone asks to know more songs by them. If anyone else wants to join this is your last chance. Not everyone on the list has to download the other peoples songs but it just seems silly if you dont. If someone cheeseman1000 doesn't post within 2 days then you go to the bottom of the list. Anyway.....away you go:

I really do not know what this is but add me to the list, Malax. I am pretty sure that I will understand by the time it is my turn.

Cheeseman, you are SO hardcore :)
Okay, I'll shoot first. 3 comments:
1) It reminds me of another song: "Dirty Fingernails" by Modest Mouse. A lot.
2) It's the sort of stuff I can like, but in small doses.
3) I actually think the song would have gained from being shorter. They should have kept it under 2 minutes.
Just my opinion!

To be honest, I don't listen to a lot of this sort of music, but I like this band. Very very good live.

It sounds like Blood Brothers to me. Not bad though, at first I didn't like it at all but about a minute in I get a bit more into it. I just was expecting there to be a chorus somewhere in there that broke the song up a bit more that was kind of a let down.

Wow - Really Like it. Sounds a lot like Fugazi, also Rodan and June of 44 (were great Louisville, KY bands). Thank you! I have no problems at all with this song, except the production is a little weird - they drop out the volume (is this a live cut? Can't see that this could have been intentional) in a whacked way right in the middle. Definitely going to look into them.....if you like this, you should check out those bands I mentioned! |

Jediroller - was that your turn? aahhhh I'm always so confused... heheh
I don't care for Modest Mouse very much, especially that song - the vocals really grate on my nerves (akin to Yo La Tengo IMHO). They just don't have much soul to me - for some reason they just come across as too derivative or flat, which is obviously totally subjective. :) |

It wasn't jedirollers turn. Please don't list other songs use your own turn. It just confuses people.
Im listening to the cat on form song right now. I listened to it a couple of times and I to be honest Im not normally a big fan of this type of music, the beginning reminds me of all that screamo stuff (thursday) but it does improve half way through and saves it from being one of those run of the mill screamo type songs. Not bad at all.
I'll leave this running another day to give everyone a chance. |

Whoops, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to post the link as "my song" (as in "it was my turn to choose one"), I just gave the link for comparison purposes. I should have seen it would confuse people.
I won't do it again!

Don't care much for it at all.
It's been quite a while since I've listened to anything much like this.
I guess I'll compare them to groups like Circus Lupus, Severin or Fugazi.
Sort-of screamy/jangley(?) vocals like Chris Thomson of CL.
Loose, lazy songwriting - Fugazi/Severin.

Yeah, just not my style. Really rough screaming and not much going on musically. There's a bridge in there (sort of) that's not bad, but I guess it's just not my taste. I do agree ith Obfusticate, though. :)

The production is kind of shonky, I'll give you that. For those who've said they might be good live, they so are. I saw them a couple of weeks ago with Youth Movie Soundtrack Strategies (also good), and they were stunning. Literally bouncing off the walls. Maybe I'll post a link when my review goes online.
Definitely Fugazi. I can see a little Sonic Youth in there, dunno if you agree...

The music is alright but the song as a whole blows. When they changed the tempo and did that solo/interlude thing @ 1:38 they should have taken the song somewhere else; not back to the same stuff they did before (except with extra people screaming.) I see what you are saying about the volume, apl4eris. I think that they were trying to decrescendo or it was just a demo.

Yeah, Toti, I agree about taking the song elsewhere. That would've been the perfect time, and that little 'bridge' for lack of a better word was the only part of the song I kind of enjoyed.

They seem to be going for the whole post-rock, post-hardcore thing, which can be done well, but the lack of vocal melody kind of ruins it for me. I could draw paralles to bands like Trail of Dead, Chavez, or Cardia, but they all have singing, as opposed to the screaming, which I don't really care for. Of course, I love it when Frank screams, but that's different somehow. |

It is different. Because:
a) Frank screams melodically. b) Frank screams at appropriate times. c) Frank doesn't scream exclusively - just when it's appropriate.

Yeah, the incessant screaming is what kills this song for me. I don't hear much imagination in it musically either, but that is in itself forgivable. Maybe that's even the point, I know nothing about this band.
I've listened to it several times and I don't think it will ever really seize me. The screaming would be better if it sounded like there was a point to it, I don't know, to me it just sounds like this guy's trying to hoarsify his throat. Screaming and howling can be done well, but here it doesn't quite seem to fit the music in my mind.
That bit where things change up a bit (around 1:40 into the track) is growing on me, but then I just get that much more frustrated every time it goes back to the same thing again.
Again, I have no other knowledge of anything relating to Cat On Form, maybe it's one of those tunes that sounds better when you can relate it to the rest of their material. For now though, my thumb is very down.
Nothing is ever something. |

I'll agree, its not their best song, but the rest of the album is quite cool. The screaming does get a little irritating after a while. It all makes sense live.

not exactly my cup of tea, but it might have been when i was a younger lad. sort of reminds me of some of the old straight edge bands i used to listen to, but grew out of. (though this have more of a tinge of the neo-heavy metal-esque satan-screaming, which i'm not a fan of).. not something i would listen to these days, but they sound spirited..
is the female vocalist cute? |
