To be honest, I was referring to snowmaiden's smiley, but looking at the picture, there is a Mona Lisa-esque enigmatic half-smile going on.

the picture that i drew from is circa late 80s noth the drawing, it is very recent, i've actually just started in the past 4 months or so

.. and hey, great job. you've really captured him here. Most of my stuff is from photographs as well. I like the eyes especially, very expressive. You can tell this is a picture of a guy with a lot going on behind the eyes ..which is good because he doesn't have any ears (yet)!
