Tsk. What is filesharing for? :)
My reply would be "Trust".
But, to be honest, I only own "Things We Lost...", "Trust" (the latest one as far as I know) and "Songs For A Dead Pilot". The latter is an EP and I didn't really listen to it much - it sorta went over my head. Gotta go back to it someday.
"Trust" is gorgeous though. It's very much a logical follow-up to "Things We Lost in the Fire". I'm not going to try and describe it song by song, but if you want to sample a few titles here's the tracklisting:
(That's How You Sing) Amazing Grace Canada Candy Girl Tonight is the Diamond Tonight The Lamb In the Drugs Snowstorm John Prine Little Argument with Myself La La La Song Point of Disgust Shots and Ladders
Acquiring more Low CDs is on my "to-do" list.
-- "C'est la vie" whatever that means, la-de-da... |

I think I want to get Secret Name next. Looking at the "people who bought this record also bought..." section on Amazon, I saw the names Explosions In The Sky, Stars Of The Lid, and Do Make Say Think alongside more familiar bands such as GSYBE! Labradford and Dirty Three. The only record I have by any of these is Lift Yr Skinny fists by Godspeed, but can you lot recommend me stuff by the others? I'm really getting into this whole post-rock, symphonies of sound thing...

well, well.... hmm...tricky. well i don't own anything by labradford or stars of the lid, but the others i can comment on... must owns: dirty three - horse stories (one of the best albums of all time) gybe! - slow riot for new zero kanada ep (sooo much better than skinny fists - only 2 songs & 28 mins however)
the others: do make say think - yet&yet (saw these guys live a couple of weeks ago - they were great...haven't got their latest album so don't know) - their stuff is quite jazzy, with lotsa of wind instruments and oh, 2 drummers. explosions in the sky - are quite like mogwai, which i like better, but thats just my opinion...can't remember what any of their albums are called.
questions?

Judging by the reviews on Amazon, all of these sound quite good, but then I suppose those reviews aren't gonna be particularly impartial...
So: I think I'm gonna get Secret Name by Low, but which one album of any of the above bands would you recommend? Also, tell me a little about it, cos I can't afford to go spending money all over the shop!

now i am not a reviewer - i am a scientist, so don't expect a nice coherent summation.
well seeing as u already have skinny fists by godspeed, i would recommend getting horse stories. now, if you aren't aware, dirty three are a 3 piece band from australia. violin, drums and guitar. no vocals. the violinist is the main guy, with the guitarist generally playing hauntingly delicate guitar lines that complement the violinists' manicness - cause he really is a bizarre man. he generally plays the instrument out of tune and not in anyway normal. the drummer is outstanding who seems to have 5 arms and 4 feet..... for a fair proportion of songs, the guys appear to be improvising cause there appears no obvious tune or timing in their playing, but it just all melds together without you really noticing into beautifulally coherent song structures. Horse stories contains 2 of my favourite songs of all time - 'sue's last ride', which is about a friend of theirs who committed suicide. this song builds up slowly and quietly, then just blasts out at about the 6 minute mark or whatever with this amazing cresendo, which i dare say, though my powers of deduction, is representing sue taking the plunge. the other is 'i knew it would come to this' which is the most haunting and emotionally affecting song i have ever heard. sends shivers down my spine eveytime i hear it without fail. i didn't like this song the first few times, but once i 'got' it i was absolutely floored. the rest of the album is tops as well, but these two are standouts.....
so i'd recommend downloading these 2 tracks for a taster, or if u feel like taking the plunge so buy. but if you're downloading, get christmas steps and mogwai fear satan by mogwai as well.
oh, and low and the dirty three did a collaboration cd together for the in a fishtank series.... is quite good, but doesn't seem to reach the heights of either bands separate releases.
