I actually checked the web stats for the first time in a year, and the main page gets over 2000 visitors a day...wow!
I'm not sure what the story is with the Forum, but i do know that well over 100 people log in every day.
Pretty neat, huh?

which reminds me of this article found on the on line version of "la stampa" a major italian newspaper
(translated from italian - excuse the bad english)
by Alessandra C. 24 october 2003
"waiting for the concert at hiroshima mon amour(27\10\03),sit comfortably in front of your pc and digit frankblack.net. enter and check the tabs section where you can find the texts to all songs with the realative tabs for playing them.of course the pixies tabs and lyrics could not be missing.you do not have to enter your credit card number, tabs and lyrics are free, and free is the album «You Ain’t Me - A Frank Black Tribute - July 2003».the tribute, played by musicians is a real virtual album, printable artwork included.the number of downloads of this directory puts pressure on the major record company managers.you have to register in order to get the pass word and download via ftp. <instructions on how to use ftp programs> the audio section includes entire concerts from 1993 and on,and concerts\songs of the pixies.the video section offers tv appearances, live concerts and videoclips. people of the web, this site is a pure intelligence demonstration.one could ask:how good old mister Black handles the copyright issues with his record label?how can he afford the artistic autonomy to put on line entire songs free of charge?what are his relations with the tv networks, since his appearnces are regularly made available on line?how does he do it? you can ask yourself how mr Black lives happy, satisfied and venerated, when a friend of mine, and many like him, download via p2p,his albums at least 2 months before their official release?how? but mr Black is a musician and not a major record company, and doesn't care about these details.like he doesn't care about the hole in his old takamine.he's not trendy but it's not important.the important thing is that he makes good music."

the journalist seems pretty convinced that the site is official and that fb is cool with the ftp.

I've seen the website linked and referenced in other websites and articles, but never on any promo items or even a freakin article written about the site! This is inspiration to work on the DB some more...I think I'll do just that.

Why do websites still link to OLGA Frank Black tabs? There are about 30 tabs there and nothing past FB and the C's self-titled (except 2 off BLD). Plus those tabs mostly suck.
That's very cool FB.net is getting posted around.

I think the guys who set up and maintain this site should give themselves a big pat on the back. I have been an active internet user since about 1995ish and this is the first forum I have frequented with any kind of consistency. A lot of the web space out there is dross (like most of the world actually, whether you're talking about movies, music, television, books, politicians, shops - I could go on for ages!). This huge mass of mediocre and sub-medicore flotsam and jetsam does mean that the good examples (such as FB.net) stand out proud.
Hats off to the forum members also - you're a damn fine bunch of people. Never met any of you and probably never will but you keep me muchly entertained. Long live the yellow orange debates! |
